David Beckham’s ‘intimate’ birthday plans with his family have been revealed as he kicks off a month of celebrations ahead of turning 50.
The former Manchester United star, 49, will celebrate turning half a century on May 2 and is doing so in style with many planned festivities in the coming weeks.
He began proceedings with a star-studded bash in Miami at the end of March, which had many celebrity guests including Lionel Messi, Jack Whitehall, Eva Longaria and Spice Girl Mel B.
The celebration was held at an exclusive Italian restaurant Cipriani – so exclusive that the menu is not publicly available – that was also attended by David’s family.
He is now said to be looking forward to a more intimate celebration with his nearest and dearest in Europe, according to a family friend.
According to the friend, after spending most of his adult life in the spotlight, David has come to value more lowkey events with his family, especially in locations where they are not easily recognised.

Despite having their troubles over the years, David and his wife Victoria were as loved up as ever at his early birthday bash and she shared a snap of them kissing to her Instagram story
The source told The Sun: ‘What he actually really loves, and wants more than anything, is some quiet time with Victoria and their kids away from it all – that’s the thing he’s looking forward to most.’
Last year, they celebrated Victoria’s 50th birthday at London’s exclusive private members’ club Oswold’s before spending some time in the south of France – and they are planning to do similar for David’s birthday.
The friend said it will be ‘somewhere in Europe’ and the whole event is being planned as a ‘surprise’ for David.
They added: ‘It will be very isolated, well away from the big showbiz places they might usually be seen at – just them and the kids miles away from it all having some great food and drink together.
‘They’re the private moments he really cherishes – they’re hard to find when you’re as recognisable as a family as they are.’

While getting older can bother some people, David is said to have insisted that he isn’t bothered by the milestone and is very content in life.
Addressing potential gifts for David, a source told The Sun that he has everything he could possibly want.

However, the star is reported to appreciate thoughtful gestures relating to his many hobbies.
David’s interests have varied a lot as he has gotten older and he is said to be a keen gardener who even enjoys beekeeping.
Other events planned for the star’s birthday include a bash in London with his A-list celebrity friends.
Ahead of his big day, the Beckham family have also just celebrated Victoria’s 51st birthday with a lavish bash in Miami.
Victoria finally treated herself to a real birthday cake as she celebrated her 51st birthday as she posed on a boat holding an aptly-named Victoria sponge cake.
The star, who is known for her strict diet and exercise regime, was known in the past to only allow herself a watermelon cake on her birthday.
Photographs from Victoria’s 44th birthday showed her cake was made up entirely of watermelon decorated with just strawberries and blueberries.
Fans at the time were less than impressed as they wrote: ‘Nah, sorry but it’s your Birthday, let your hair down and your waistline out a little. YOLO. Saddest looking Birthday cake ever!!”
However, the star appeared to have indulged this year as she proudly held up a real birthday cake while celebrating with her husband David, son Romeo and daughter Harper.
