David Beckham indulges in outrageously pricey seafood delicacy percebes (resembling dragon claws and fetching up to £400 per pound!)

David Beckham has shared his love of Galician delicacy percebes in his latest Instagram Story update – but fans will be shocked by the pricetag.

The Inter Miami FC owner, 48, revealed he was tucking into a plate percebes – which are known as the world’s most expensive seafood – on Tuesday evening.

The rare seafood can cost up to £400 for a pound and will set buyers back about £80 for a portion of between 15 and 20 percebes.

Percebes are so expensive because of their scarcity and it is also incredibly difficult and dangerous to retrieve them.

Despite the hefty price tag, percebes don’t have the most appetising exterior, with some comparing them to dragon claws and dinosaur toes.

The price was no problem for David – who is reportedly worth around £350million – as he revealed he loves tucking into them when in Spain.

David, who lived in Spain while playing for Real Madrid FC, shared snaps of the questionable-looking snack on his social media.

What Are Percebes?

Percebes (gooseneck barnacles) are crustaceans which attach to rocks when they are in their larval stage.

The name stems from an old belief that geese would hatch from barnacles, due to their similar shapes and colour.

Although it was later realised that geese migrate south for the winter, the delicacy has kept its name.

Holding up the percebes to the camera for a snap, David wrote: ‘One of my favourite thing to eat when in season in Spain.’

David shares a love of cooking and food with his eldest son and aspiring chef Brooklyn, 24, who is about to launch a collaboration with UberEats.

Earlier this week, Brooklyn admitted he and his famous father David have similar techniques when it comes to romancing their wives on date night.

Brooklyn revealed his go-to is making fresh pasta, a tip which he learned from his dad, who also makes the Italian staple for Brooklyn’s mother, Victoria.

Brooklyn shared a clip online of himself preparing a delicious meaty tomato pasta.

He said: ‘My pasta is perfect for date night, it’s something I’ve cooked for my wife on our date nights, something that my dad has cooked for my mum.

Despite recently revealing his actress wife Nicola, 29, ‘can’t cook to save her life’, Brooklyn admitted he has attempted to take her how to make pasta.

He said: ‘My favourite food is comfort food. I taught my wife how to make pasta. Yeah she really enjoys it.’

Putting the finishing touches to his dish, Brooklyn grated over a generous amount of cheese, saying: ‘I love a lot of cheese, so I’m doing it the way I would do it.’

Brooklyn joked about Nicola’s cooking abilities during a recent interview in the Sunday Times, where he also revealed his loved of cooking came from his dad.

He said: ‘My dad was always the one cooking in the house, my mum not so much.I just loved hanging out with him in the kitchen, I loved the smell of food.’

Brooklyn, who first started sharing cooking content online in 2021, said that he also enjoys cooking with his siblings Romeo, 21, and Cruz, 18, and Harper, 12.

He said: ‘We never say it’s like a competition, even though we give each other a bit of stick about it — that’s just what brothers do. All of us in the kitchen. Just listening to music, cooking together, it’s fun. The best.’
