‘I expected her to need more than she does. It’s an adjustment.’
The Scream star says the decision to get matching tattoos was made last Christmas.
Courteney, her partner Johnny McDaid, 47 and Coco were spending the holiday with longtime pal Laura Dern and her children, Ellery, 22, and Jaia, 18, a tradition that has been taking place for nearly two decades.
‘This [last] one, we went, ‘Should we get tattoos together?’ Courteney explained.
She suggested the phrase ‘go long,’ and Ellery suggested it be paired with a drawing of a paper airplane.
On January 18, the group shared their new tatts, with the Shining Vale star and producer writing, ‘Adding a new layer to our 16 year Christmas Eve tradition. Watch out… we might have sleeves by 2025.’
The Alabama native grew up with a father who was a huge football fan and taught her the risks and rewards of ‘going long.’
‘Go long’ became her personal mantra after her mother’s death in 2020. The actress and her late mom share the same first name.

Risk: Courteney revealed therapy has helped her tackle more challenges. ‘Now I take these [negative] thoughts…I’ll just put [each] out as if it’s a candle,’ she explained (Pictured in Los Angeles in December 2022)
‘I would stop myself from doing things, and I would talk myself out of stuff by justifying—oh, you know, “that’s not really what I want to do.”‘
She said therapy helped her confront her fears and the negative self-talk that often accompanied them.
‘Now I take these thoughts…I’ll just put [each] out as if it’s a candle,’ she explained.
‘Because I think whenever you give wind or air or attention to things, they do get bigger. Why stay in the past or project into the future?’
