Controversial Dance Selection leads to Eddie Kadi and Karen Hauer’s Inevitable Exit from Strictly Come Dancing

Eddie Kadi was the fourth contestant to leave Strictly Come Dancing 2023 following Sunday’s dance-off, alongside his dance partner Karen Hauer.

The comedian, 40, faced the dreaded dance off against Love Island star Zara McDermott, but failed to impress the judges and was sent packing.

But their fate on the competition may have already been sealed the moment they were given their dance style.

Eddie and Karen performed a Samba this week to Calm Down by Rema and Selena Gomez.

They only managed a disappointing 24 out of 40 for the performance, placing them last on the leaderboard.

However, the couple had a risky job ahead of them from the start, as the Samba has a notoriously bad track record.

Research has found that the Brazilian dance is the style most likely to send a celebrity home from the show.

According to William Hill Vegas, 20.6% of couples eliminated over the past six series were dancing the Samba when they were sent packing.

That means the Samba led to one out of every five exits, including this series’ star Les Dennis, who said his goodbyes in week two after trying his hand at the dance.

However, the Samba is not a guarantee of failure, as this series has already seen Bobby Brazier, Ellie Leach and Layton Williams tackle the genre and keep their places in the competition with respectable scores.

Taking on the tricky dance also gives a celebrity the chance to show off their talent and skills if they are able to master it.

In 2016, Danny Mac and his partner Oti Mabuse made history when they scored the first perfect 40 for the Samba in the show’s history.

Coming behind the Samba is the jive for riskiest style, contributing to 15.5% of exits since 2018.

While the Cha Cha Cha is also very dangerous choice as it accounts for 12% of eliminations.

Eddie and Karen were left saying their goodbyes on Sunday after Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke were all in favour of Zara staying.

Craig said: ‘For me the quality of dance in this couple was far superior and the couple I would like to save is Zara and Graziano.’

Meanwhile, Motsi said: ‘For me, it was extremely close. The quality was actually very, very close. It came down to details and I would love to save Zara and Graziano.’

Anton said: ‘Well, I thought that was an excellent dance off. I thought both couples danced very, very well but for me with a slightly cleaner technique, I’d like to save Zara and Graziano.’

Head judge Shirley Ballas also revealed Zara and Graziano had her vote to stay in the competition.

Speaking about his time on the show, Eddie said: ‘I’ve really enjoyed this, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do – I love dancing.

‘This has been the highest moment of my career – it’s the happiest I’ve ever been, but not just for me – my family – my little baby girl is at home doing the Men in Black dance.

‘More importantly, this little African boy, I just wanted my culture to shine. Everything I stand for, when it comes to my comedy, when it comes to my presenting, is based on my culture, is based on my upbringing and I wanted that to shine most importantly.

‘Even more importantly this wonderful Queen [to Karen], there are two parts to this show – we want to entertain, I believe that God has brought this to me, I just want to make people happy and this gem over here has kept me happy – I love you so much God bless you.’

Karen gushed: ‘You are a treasure, I’m going to miss you [to Eddie] – well I’ll see you tomorrow!

‘We’re going to take up Congolese dancing. I just want to thank you so much for being so positive and bringing such light and smiling, just a beauty to all of us, I want to thank you so much.’

The remaining couples will take to the dancefloor next week for a spook-tacular Halloween special on Saturday, October 28 at 6:40pm.
