Channel Nine’s Clint Stanaway has revealed he was almost arrested in Paris this week.
The 41-year-old, who is in the French capital to present for Weekend Today at Olympics, said he had the run-in with authorities after wandering into a restricted area.
Clint said he was stopped by police after accidentally stumbling on a brand new railway station that is scheduled to open next week.
Appearing on Nova 100’s Jase and Lauren Show on Friday, Clint said he knew ‘something wasn’t right’ about his situation when the railway platform did not have any other passengers except for himself.
‘I hear this ”Monsieur! Excuse-moi Monsieur!”,’ he said.
‘I had breached security inadvertently, (I was) out of bounds (and in) a no-go zone.’
The Weekend Today host added that the episode with the police quickly deflated when they realised he was from ‘out of town’.
‘It was a brand new station that that was meant to open next week in conjunction with the Olympics and the opening ceremony,’ he said, adding: ‘[The police] were not happy.’

Clint said his security breach occurred on his first day in Paris while he was exploring public transport options, including the city’s metro rail system.
Elsewhere in the chat with hosts Jason Hawkins and Lauren Phillips, Clint described how French authorities have imposed severe security restrictions in Paris in preparation for the Olympics, which begin on July 26.
He said that the police and the army have created a ‘ring of steel’ around Paris.

‘Effectively, they’re trying to, sort of, lockdown that central business district,’ he explained.
He added that authorities have introduced wire fences throughout the city for security purposes, while he also noticed a heavy police presence in the street.
‘It makes you feel safe, and not a lot can go wrong,’ he said.
Clint is one of three new hosts confirmed for Channel Nine’s breakfast program Weekend Today earlier this year.
The network announced Jayne Azzopardi and Clint as the new hosts fronting the show, with Sophie Walsh as newsreader and Dan Anstey as weather presenter.
Jayne, Clint and Sophie replaced veteran hosts Richard Wilkins, Belinda Russell and Charles Croucher.
