Christina Aguileras Wig Controversy in Ad!

Christina Aguilera has been accused of wearing a wig in a hair care commercial.

The Dirrty hitmaker, 45, is the new face of Nexxus, a hair care brand that sells protein-infused shampoos, conditioners, and styling products. 

Aguilera is currently promoting the brand's new 'liquid crystallizer' leave-in treatment, but fans couldn't help but notice that she appeared to be wearing a long platinum blonde wig in an ad for the brand.

'Love that she's promoting shampoo while wearing a wig… iconic,' commented one fan.

'The way the wig isn't even pretending to look like real hair is sending me,' laughed another.

'This is a wig girl I can't,' wrote a third, followed by a laughing emoji.

Despite the backlash, a few fans weighed in to defend the singer.

'It's for an ad campaign, wigs are completely normal for this kind of shoot,' argued one.

Another wrote, 'The people mad about her wearing extensions or hair piece when EVERY hair care ad I've seen in the last 10 years has had extensions/hair pieces.'

Speaking to WWD about her Nexxus collaboration, Aguilera insisted that she's been using the brand's products to protect her hair while touring. 

'Us girlies, we need products to help get us through breakage and damage,' she said. 

'I definitely get very dry with all the travel that I do too, airplanes, hotels, different air qualities throughout the globe. I need moisture. I need things that are going to hold in there and make [my hair] feel yummy,' she continued.  

'I love having something to go to after the shampoo and conditioner that I can just leave in my hair, that I’m going to feel gives residual effect after the fact and throughout my day.' 

Aguilera also opened up about her plans for new music in an interview with Elle magazine this week.

'It’s just too soon to reveal anything,' she teased.

'I can just assure you there’s exciting stuff to come. I’m working with amazing people, and it feels more creative and inspiring than ever right now.'

The Burlesque star hasn't released a new album since 2022's Spanish-language Aguilera.

Her last English-language pop album was 2018's Liberation, which reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200.  

In December, she performed in Paris to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her Christmas album, My Kind of Christmas.

Titled Christina Aguilera: Christmas in Paris, the holiday concert aired as its own TV special and was also released as a live album.
