‘It was sudden, unexpected, and far too soon for someone who had so much light left to give.
‘My mother was a force of nature in the gentlest way. Her beauty wasn’t just in her presence but in the way she graced everything and everyone around her with love, kindness, and unwavering strength.
‘She had a quiet elegance, a warmth that embraced everyone she met, and a wisdom that guided us all.
‘To know her was to know a love that was pure, selfless, and constant. She was the best mother to us, and a safe, welcoming space for so many.
‘In the past few months, she battled leukaemia, and over the past four weeks, she fought complications in ICU. She fought with the quiet resilience that defined her, but in the end, her body couldn’t heal.
‘She wasn’t meant to go so soon, and we are still trying to comprehend the depth of this loss.
‘But in true Otten style, we are leaning on each other, trying to bring lightness to such a sad time. I’m so lucky to have the family and community that I have, so lucky.’
Chantelle went on to invite those who knew Veronica to join her and her family on October 23 in celebrating her life.

‘I haven’t had the chance to tell everyone close to me yet, and I hope this post helps lift some of that weight as we navigate the next steps of planning, surviving, and rebuilding.
‘Thank you to everyone who has reached out already and to those who’ve been patient with me when I haven’t been able to respond. Please know that my family and I are incredibly grateful for all your love and support.’
She concluded her post by urging people to donate blood, adding: ‘For those who can, I urge you to donate blood, plasma, and go on the stem cell donor register with Life Blood.
‘These donations kept my mum alive through to her final days. Hold your loved ones close.’
