Carson Daly gave an update on his practice of sleeping in a separate bed from his wife Siri Pinter on Monday — and he said the unorthodox move has been a boon to the couple.

The 50-year-old television host previously revealed in 2022 that he and Siri, 43, had given a try to ‘sleep divorcing,’ in which they spent multiple nights per week sleeping in different rooms.

The two have been giving themselves some time apart at night since 2019, and he raved to People at the Today Show’s solar eclipse watching event at The American Museum of Natural History that the couple now ‘secretly love’ the arrangement.

The two entered into the sleeping plan when they decided to do ‘whatever it takes’ to make their marriage last the test of time.

‘The object is to stay together. That’s what we’d like to do,’ he explained. ‘And so reverse engineering that, it’s like — by any means necessary, for the two of us, [we want to] still be in a relationship when we’re dying.’

‘It’s been good for us,’ he said of the ‘sleep divorce.’

‘We don’t do it all the time, but a couple of days during the week — especially if I want to watch an Islanders hockey game kind of later at night — I go into the guest room, she retires upstairs to read her book or watch a show,’ he shared.

The so-called sleep divorce can be for a number of reasons, whether to allow members of a couple to have some time to themselves, or to help isolate the other if one parent needs to take care of a young child, or to accommodate people who have different sleep needs.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, a sleep divorce can help improve one’s sleep — which can have numerous beneficial mental and physical effects — and can also help cut down on negative interactions with couples.

However, sleeping apart isn’t for everyone, as it could also have negative effects on a couple’s intimacy or sex life, and partner’s sleeping apart may be more likely to feel lonely. Anyone sleeping apart should ideally have a secure and private environment, such as a second bedroom, which can also be out of the price range for many people.

According to Carson, he and Siri part on a sweet note by saying, ‘Goodnight, I’ll see you tomorrow.’

He gave anyone considering the prospect of spending sleep time apart a big thumbs up.

‘It just takes a lot of attention out and it works,’ he said approvingly. ‘So I highly recommend sleep divorce.’

In 2019, when Daly revealed that he and his wife were sleeping apart, he explained that a medical condition and her pregnancy at the time made it worth trying out.

‘I have sleep apnea, my wife’s pregnant, and during a home renovation, we downgraded to a queen-size bed,’ he said on the Today Show. ‘We just felt like we’re better off sleeping in different beds.’

He added that Siri ‘couldn’t get comfortable’ because of his CPAP machine and her pregnancy, so getting her own space solved many of those issues.

Carson also shared that after moving to California to host The Voice, he now had to wake up at 3 a.m. to appear on Today because of the time difference, so he and Siri rarely sleep together because he’s on a different schedule.

‘We’re still sleep divorced, but for discernibly different reasons, ‘he said. ‘I don’t know if we’ll ever sleep together again.’

Carson and Siri appear to be going strong, after they began dating in 2005 and married a decade later in 2015.
