When turned 27 this week, the birthday tributes from his famously tight-knit family came thick and fast.
From affectionate childhood nicknames to nostalgic throwback photographs, his parents David and – along with Brooklyn’s siblings, grandparents and even aunts – filled social media with heartfelt messages.
But friends of the family say the public outpouring carried a far more painful meaning.
The messages, I’m told, were shared out of ‘sadness and desperation’ by relatives who still adore Brooklyn and desperately hope that he might come back into their lives despite months of bitter estrangement.
David was the first to mark the day last Wednesday, sharing two childhood photographs of his eldest son on . Alongside one picture, the former England captain wrote: ‘27 today. Happy birthday Bust. We love you.’ Bust – short for Buster – is a nickname that David has long used for his first-born.
Minutes later Victoria followed suit, sharing the same photograph with the message: ‘Happy birthday Brooklyn, we love you so much,’ before posting another picture of herself laughing with her son accompanied by a string of heart emojis.

Members of the wider Beckham clan – including David’s sister Joanne and Victoria’s sister Louise, once some of Brooklyn’s closest relatives – also posted tributes of their own.
‘Brooklyn was once such a central part of the family, he adored them and they adored him,’ a source close to the family told me. ‘Now those relationships have disintegrated.

One friend tells me how much David’s father, Ted Beckham, 78, ‘misses him dearly’. But despite his sadness, Ted also shared a birthday message on social media alongside photographs of Brooklyn, writing: ‘Happy birthday Brooklyn. Hope you have a fabulous day. With love from Grandad and Hilary.’
Although Brooklyn previously insisted he has maintained a close bond with his grandparents, he has not seen them since the autumn of 2024.
The distance is all the more striking given that Brooklyn has made several trips to London since then – including visits in April and May last year. Yet friends close to the family tell me he did not meet his grandparents on any of those occasions.
‘There has been the odd message but Brooklyn hasn’t seen them since 2024,’ says a friend of the wider Beckham family. ‘Ted, Sandra, Jackie and Tony would give anything to have Brooklyn back. He came to the UK but still didn’t see them.’
The estrangement is particularly painful given how close Brooklyn once was to his grandparents. As a a little boy, Brooklyn and his grandmothers Jackie Adams and Sandra Beckham were almost inseparable.
When Victoria gave birth to her second son, Romeo, in 2002 Jackie was so hands-on in caring for Brooklyn that they effectively lived together.

‘It’s very upsetting, none of them have any sway in helping to mend the fallout,’ a friend says. ‘They are not getting any younger, the current situation is heartbreaking for them.’
Brooklyn’s younger brothers Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 21, also publicly reached out despite the growing rift.
Romeo posted a childhood throwback photograph of himself with his older brother, while Cruz followed later with a picture of the pair as children, accompanied by the message: ‘I love you.’
Brooklyn's grandfather Ted shared his own birthday message, writing: ‘Happy birthday Brooklyn. Hope you have a fabulous day. With love from Grandad and Hilary.’

Friends say the public birthday tributes have become one of the few ways the family can still reach him – aside from the occasional text message.
‘They don’t even know if Brooklyn is getting their messages,’ says one friend. ‘But they won’t stop, they all want Brooklyn to know they love him and would give anything to have a relationship with him.
‘Whatever he thinks of his parents, there is a big, loving wider family who are devastated.’
Despite the Beckham family’s hopes that the public tribute might prompt an acknowledgement from Brooklyn, he remained silent.
But there was one birthday tribute he didn’t ignore: a gushing post from his wife Nicola.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday evening, the billionaire heiress, 31, shared a video of Brooklyn in a room decorated with balloons, captioned: ‘Happy birthday baby... I hope all your dreams and wishes come true! you light up every room you walk into and anyone who knows you loves you... you’re the most special human and I love being your wife. I love you I love you I love you.’

Brooklyn was quick to respond to the post, commenting: ‘I love you baby girl.’
He was also greeted by a mountain of gifts wrapped in paper bearing Cloud 23 branding – the hot sauce brand he launched last year, the name itself a nod to the football shirt number worn by his father during his time playing for Real Madrid and LA Galaxy.
Brooklyn’s celebrations came just two weeks after David, 50, led the birthday tributes to his ‘kind, considerate and fiercely loyal’ son Cruz, who recently enjoyed several bashes to mark his milestone 21st.

David and Victoria threw their youngest son a lavish party at The Maine restaurant in Mayfair last month, ahead of Cruz’s big day on February 20, complete with a luxury three-course meal.

The whole Beckham clan – minus Brooklyn – attended the occasion, including siblings Romeo and Harper, 14; maternal grandparents Tony and Jackie; aunt Joanne and paternal grandmother Sandra.
But despite the recent run of family celebrations, many tears have been shed in the Beckham household over the past months.
Both David and Victoria were left reeling in the aftermath of Brooklyn’s brutal Instagram statement on January 19, in which he made a raft of lurid accusations against them. These were predominantly directed at his mother, including claims that Victoria, 51, hijacked his dance with his wife Nicola at their wedding back in April 2022 and danced ‘on’ him ‘inappropriately’.
‘In front of our 500 wedding guests,’ he wrote, ‘Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead.’
