Britney Spears Joins Hollywoods DUI Club

was handed a DUI in  on Wednesday evening and released soon after with a court date in May.

Her rep told Daily Mail: 'This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.'

The 44-year-old Toxic pop singer joins a long list of celebrities who have suffered the same fate.

Getting a DUI is a low blow for a star as they have the money to pay for a private driver, but they opt instead to get behind the wheel themselves anyhow.

The punishment is severe, not just for how the criminal offense is an international embarrassment but also for the time and money that is involved.

A DUI in California results in severe consequences. When a person gets a DUI in California they have their driver’s license automatically suspended for at least 30 days, if not more.

There is also potential jail time, a hefty fine of over $1,000 and mandatory DUI education programs. 

A first offense typically involves three to five years of probation, 6-month license suspension and about six months of school.

Here is a look at the stars who have been arrested for a DUI. 

Paris Hilton

Hilton was arrested for DUI while on her way to an In-N-Out Burger in September 2006 after officials claim she was driving erratically in Hollywood. 

Mischa Barton

Barton was driving between two lanes in West Hollywood after 2am in 2007. Once stopped, officers charged her with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license.

Nicole Richie

Richie was arrested for drunk driving in 2003 and then again in 2006 after officers pulled her over for driving on the wrong side of the highway in California. She plead guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge.

Jaime Pressly

Pressly was charged with DUI in January 2011 in Santa Monica.

Amanda Bynes

Bynes was arrested for DUI in April 2012. Prior to her arrest, officials say she sideswiped a police cruiser in West Hollywood. In 2014, she was arrested for driving under a drug influence in Sherman Oaks, California, after failing several field sobriety tests.

Justin Bieber

Bieber was pulled over in Miami Beach and . According to Miami Beach Police, Justin argued with officials during the arrest and failed a field sobriety test.

Keanu Reeves

Reeves was arrested for drunk driving in Los Angeles in 1993. Officials say he was driving erratically and that’s when an officer pulled him over. 

Lindsay Lohan

Lohan was arrested in a car accident and charged with DUI, possession of cocaine, and misdemeanor hit-and-run in Beverly Hills in May 2007.

Lohan was arrested again in Santa Monica with DUI charges for alcohol, possession of cocaine, transporting a narcotic into a custody facility, and driving with a suspended license in July 2007.

Khloe Kardashian

Kardashian was arrested for DUI in 2007. She was charged and spent only three hours in jail before being released due to overcrowding.

Kourtney Kardashian's ex-partner Disick was arrested for DUI in 2001. He was 18-years-old at the time and pled guilty to the DUI charge. 

Vince Vaughn

Vaughn stopped at a DUI checkpoint near Los Angeles in June 2018 before being arrested. Officials said Vince was arrested on charges of obstructing officers and public intoxication. 

Tim Allen

Allen was charged with DUI in 1997 in Birmingham, MI. He was sentenced to one-year probation and later went through rehab for alcohol abuse.

Michelle Rodriguez

Rodriguez pled guilty to DUI while in Hawaii in 2006. In 2008, she was released from a Los Angeles County jail after serving 18 days out of a 180-day sentence due to overcrowding for violating probation.

Tiger Woods

The golf pro was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Jupiter, Florida, in May 2017. 

John Stamos

Stamos was arrested for driving under the influence of a drug in June 2015. He pled no contest to a misdemeanor count of DUI and was sentenced to three years probation and counseling.

Nick Carter

He was arrested for driving under the influence in 2005. Carter was driving from a restaurant in Huntington Beach, CA, when police pulled him over.

Aaron Carter

Nick Carter’s younger brother Aaron was arrested in Cornelia, Georgia, for DUI and drug possession in July 2017.

Farrah Abraham

The Teen Mom star was arrested for DUI in March 2013 after almost hitting a police car in Omaha, Nebraska.

Shia LeBeouf

LaBeouf was involved in an early morning crash in July 2008, and officers who responded to the scene in Hollywood. He was arrested for drunk driving.

Mel Gibson

The actor was arrested in July 2006 on DUI charges in Malibu, CA. 

Chris Pine

Pine was pulled over by police in New Zealand under the suspicion of drunken driving in March 2014 at a DUI checkpoint.
