A decade after portraying hero Navy SEAL Chris Kyle in 2014 flick American Sniper, it has been revealed that Bradley Cooper still keeps in touch with his family.

The 49-year-old 12-time Oscar nominee – who took his seven-year-old daughter Lea to a starry event over the weekend – has stayed in touch with Chris’ widow Taya Kyle, 49, and children Colton, 19, and McKenna, 18 the family told People magazine on Thursday.

Taya told the weekly: ‘We’ve stayed in touch over the years quite a bit.

‘Bradley will always be tied to me in a way that connects me to what Chris lost in being able to represent himself after his death in 2013.’

In the 2014 Clint Eastwood directed flick Bradley played Chris whose pinpoint accuracy saved countless lives on the battlefield and turned him into a legend. However, back home with his family after four tours of duty, Chris finds that it is the war he can’t leave behind.

Taya said that the talented actor has been there throughout the years as she explained: ‘As we reflect on the past, I see that although Bradley is tied to my past, he is the type of person who stays.

‘He has seen me through every stage of grief. I look forward to our friendship into the future with less of my pain from the past and more of the beauty that lies ahead.’

In 2022, Bradley even joined Chris’ children for their first time watching the critically-acclaimed film as he had them over at his New York home as Colton said: ‘He’s been a friend over the years.

‘I know him for who he is as a person, and I appreciate that,’ said the teenager adding: ‘He’s a good guy.’

The son of the American war hero described what it was like watching a film about his father with the A-list actor portraying him.

Colton said: ‘For me, it was watching a movie with a friend who just so happens to be famous.’

The film was based on Kyle’s New York Times best selling book ‘American Sniper’ which detailed his time in combat.

It tells the story of Chris during his four tours of duty in Iraq from 2003 to 2008 where he killed as many as 255 insurgents with his high powered sniper rifle.

The deadly toll makes him the most lethal shot in US military history.

Such was his prowess with a sniper rifle that a $80,000 bounty was put on his head by Iraqi insurgents who called him the ‘Devil of Ramadi’.

His colleagues in the Navy SEALs nicknamed him ‘The Legend’ due to his skills in taking out targets.

Tragically, the highly decorated Navy SEAL was killed in February 2013 when he was shot dead by another veteran said to be suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome at a Texas gun range.

Due to Chris saving countless lives with his sharpshooter skills and his death was mourned by more than 7,000 people who attended his funeral held at the Dallas Cowboys stadium.

Bradley’s portrayal of Chris earned him an Academy Award nomination in the  Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role as it was also nominated for Best Picture.
