The plug comes after Australia Zoo was reportedly hit with financial issues in recent years, with the Irwin family .

Bindi admitted in 2020 that her late father Steve's legacy was almost on the brink of collapse as the family struggled to keep the business operational amid the pandemic.

Australia Zoo was forced to shut for 78 days last year due to the pandemic, but the Irwins still had to pay $80,000 a week to feed the animals.

In January 2021, a source close to the famous family told Woman's Day magazine 'they still aren't out of the woods yet'.

'The zoo relies on international visitors, and with the borders closed, indeed some state borders closed, and even Aussies , that's a sizeable chunk of their income gone,' the source said.

In 2025, a source told Star magazine that the family is still rebuilding after those setbacks.

'The last few years have been very tough. Their zoo has struggled a fair amount over the years, but COVID really took a toll and they've been trying their hardest to climb out of debt since,' the source said.

It follows reports that Chandler is at breaking point after months of holding the fort at Australia Zoo while brother-in-law Robert Irwin (right) works overseas

Chandler is at breaking point after months of quietly holding the fort at Australia Zoo while brother-in-law continues to enjoy a globe-trotting rise to international fame.

According to New Idea, Chandler, 29, ended last year feeling 'exhausted' and increasingly overlooked, as 22-year-old Robert's high-profile television opportunities took him from Hollywood to , leaving Chandler to shoulder much of the responsibility back home.

'Chandler has been working nonstop to keep the zoo going,' an insider claimed.

'He's exhausted and feels like he puts in the blood, sweat and tears back home to keep [Steve's] legacy alive.'

'Chandler busts his gut day in, day out and is so much more involved than a lot of people might realise.'
