Sat alone, Sir appeared deep in thought under the glow of the fluorescent lights in a late-night sandwich shop in on Wednesday.
The 50-year-old had narrowly missed coming face-to-face twice with his estranged son, Brooklyn, for the first time since May, after they both visited the same hotel on Monday.
Sir David, who has been left heartbroken by the rift with the 27-year-old, wore a simple white t-shirt as he dined solo at Fat Sal’s, a restaurant not far from his son's £12million mansion in Beverly Hills.
A source told the Daily Mail:' While David didn't know where Brooklyn was, he knew he was in the same city so of course it was sad.
'So much of Brooklyn's childhood was spent in LA, it was a happy time for the Beckhams. Bow David is there without his son.'
The former England Captain, who is in LA filming an advert for Lays crisps, checked into the five-star hotel late on Sunday night, after arriving from his skiing trip in British Columbia with his middle son Romeo, 23.

On Monday morning, the former footballer had an early start to get to his filming location five miles away in Santa Monica to record the advert for the snack company - the sponsor of the forthcoming World Cup.
A few hours later, Brooklyn arrived at the hotel to have breakfast and to relax by the pool after he had partied into the early hours at his godfather Sir Elton John’s Oscars party with his wife, Nicola Peltz.
Sir David arrived back to dine with friends at the world-famous Polo Lounge restaurant at 6pm - three hours after his son was last seen at the hotel by an onlooker.

Friends of the Beckhams say that Sir David 'had no idea' that Brooklyn had been at the hotel when he arrived on either occasion.
Sir David and his son haven't spoken since last May, when Brooklyn and Nicola snubbed his 50th birthday celebrations. The couple's lawyers wrote to the Beckhams' legal team demanding that they only converse through them.
Shortly before Christmas, Brooklyn blocked his parents on Instagram and in January he posted a brutal, bombshell six-page letter on the social media platform in which he claimed Sir David and Victoria controlled him for most of his life, tried to split him and Nicola up and left him embarrassed when his mother danced 'inappropriately' with him during his first dance at his wedding. She denies her son's allegations.
