poked fun at his son Romeo's debut after the budding model sported a leather outfit for the biggest night in the fashion calendar.

Romeo, 23, made his first appearance at New York's star-studded benefit after he was invited by British heritage brand, .

But as Romeo showed off his smart black blazer with a leather lapel, David took to Instagram to share his pride at seeing his son, but joked he may have been inspired by one of his most iconic 90s outfits.

The footballer then shared a throwback snap of himself and his wife Victoria wearing one of their most iconic matching leather outfits.

He captioned the post: '@romeobeckham not sure where u got the idea from.'

Romeo avoided an awkward reunion with his estranged brother Brooklyn at this year's Met Gala.

David Beckham has cheekily accusing his son Romeo of taking inspiration from one of his most iconic leather looks, after he made his Met Gala debut on Monday

Fans were anticipating that the Beckham brothers would both be in attendance at the prestigious fashion event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

However, it was only Romeo who graced the steps of the Met, with Brooklyn absent for the second year in a row.

In 2024, Brooklyn attended the event solo while his wife spent quality time with her late grandmother, who was unwell at the time.

The couple had attended together every year from 2021.

Romeo made a splash during his debut appearance alongside supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who is an ambassador for the brand.

They were joined on the red carpet by chief creative officer of Burberry, Daniel Lee.

Romeo cut a cool figure in a double-breasted jacket with leather lapels, teamed with a matching shirt and tie in the same fabric.

Romeo was no doubt relieved to dodge the awkward red carpet encounter, as the brothers haven't spoken for more than a year amid a family feud.

Shortly after his appearance, Romeo received a show of support from his brother Cruz, 21, who posted a picture of his appearance on his Instagram story.

Sharing a screen grab of Romeo stood next to Rosie with the Rascal Flatts song, Life Is A Highway, he wrote: 'There he is'

Romeo was in New York at the weekend where he attended one of the pre-parties for the event, which is one of Brooklyn's favourite of the year.

In the lead up to the event, it was not known if Brooklyn and his wife were attending and neither posted on Instagram over the weekend.

Expectedly, Brooklyn remained silent as his siblings rushed to social media to wish their dad David a happy 51st birthday on Saturday.

In January the wannabe chef announced his disassociation from his famous family – declaring he was no longer part of 'Brand Beckham' and insisting his parents and their other children Romeo, Cruz, and Harper, 14, are 'performative'.

In an apparent dig at Brooklyn, his siblings joined their mum Victoria to surprise David on his big day with a joint and very unlikely family gift, chickens.

Posh, 52, shared a clip on Instagram of the former footballer as he met the birds for the first time and settled them into their coop on the grounds of the family's £15million Cotswolds estate.

David and Victoria haven't spoken to Brooklyn since last May, when he and Nicola snubbed the former footballer's 50th birthday celebrations.

Brooklyn and Nicola's lawyers wrote to the Beckhams' legal team demanding that they only converse through them.

Shortly before Christmas, Brooklyn blocked his parents on Instagram and in January he posted a brutal six-page letter on the social media platform.

He claimed David and Victoria had controlled him for most of his life, tried to split him and Nicola up and left him embarrassed when his mother danced 'inappropriately' with him during his first dance at his wedding in 2022.

Speaking about all four of her children earlier in the interview, Victoria added that 'being a parent of young adult children and adult children, gosh, I mean, it's very different from having little children'.

'I think that we're trying to do the best we can,' she said, adding that the negative press in the past three months has not affected her fashion and beauty business.

'I think that ultimately people are buying my product because the product is really good. I don't think they're buying my eyeliner just because it's me,' she said.
