Asher Keddie has revealed she feels ‘relieved’ watching the next generation of young Australian boys be raised to understand gender and equality.
The Offspring star, 50, shares son Valentino, nine, with her husband Vincent Fantauzzo, who also has another son Luca, 14, from a previous marriage.
Speaking about motherhood on Thursday at Marie Claire’s International Women’s Day luncheon in Sydney, she said she’s ‘hopeful’ about their future as men.
‘I’m so relieved about that too, that children, kid’s dialogues, especially young boys… are able to discuss and have a good understanding of gender and equality,’ she said.
‘I’m feeling hopeful about it.’
When asked in the wide-ranging interview how she views herself as a mother, Asher said: ‘I don’t know if I can say what kind of mother I am.’

She added: ‘I’m a very conscientious mother, I know that. Perhaps that means I hold on tight a little too often. I’m working on that as well.
‘Especially with the little one. I hold on quite tight to that little boy.’
The Gold Logie-winning actor also spoke about her experiences dealing with rejection as she grew up in the world of acting.
‘Rejection felt debilitating. It was awful. But it didn’t take me long to learn if I just tapped into the resilience I knew I had… I didn’t have to drown,’ she said.
‘I learnt very early to let it wash over me, the rejection. I didn’t accept it. I just let it go. I realised very early on if I didn’t get a role, it just wasn’t meant for me.’
It comes after Asher revealed in 2023 she was worried about ageing as she raises her youngest child, who she welcomed in 2015 at the age of 41.
‘At the time, I didn’t think anything of being what apparently is an older mother. I felt the same as I did when I was 25,’ she told Stellar Magazine at the time.
‘I was physically robust and that was fine, but not that long ago I did the stupid sum thing in my head. I thought, oh, I’m counting how old I will be when he’s 18.’

Speaking about motherhood on Thursday at Marie Claire’s International Women’s Day luncheon in Sydney, she said she’s ‘hopeful’ about their future as men
She went on: ‘You realise that you’ve probably lived the majority of your life, but you still have young people there whose lives you want to live with them and watch.
‘It’s a bittersweet kind of thing, but most of it is sweet and most of it’s exciting.’
Asher also discussed her ten-year marriage to artist husband Vincent, 48, while discussing how the couple met.
She shared a glimpse into the couple’s home life with their son Valentino, and Vincent’s son Luca from a previous marriage.
‘I take care of stuff when I come home… but we have different roles within the house and as long as the kids come first, everything falls into place,’ she added.
Asher and Vincent tied the knot in a beach-side ceremony on Fiji’s Turtle Island in April 2014.
The couple went on to welcome a son of their own, Valentino, in March 2015.
