The 2025 BAFTAs Awards kicked off with a memorable – and slightly chaotic – opening performance from host David Tennant.

The Doctor Who star, 53, started the ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall in style on Sunday with a powerful rendition of I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers.

Dressed in a kilt, BBC viewers praised the actor’s ‘brave’ and ‘brilliant’ performance as he made a grand entrance into the auditorium.

But it was Ariana Grande and Kylie Jenner who became the unexpected stars of the night after their baffled reactions to the skit sent social media into a frenzy.

During David’s performance fans couldn’t but notice the American stars as they looked completely clueless to what was going on.

Although they tried to hide their awkwardness, eagle-eyed fans could see straight through their act.

‘Absolutely p”ssing myself at Kylie Jenner being at the baftas listening to David Tennant singing 500 miles,’

‘I can’t believe Kylie Jenner just watched David Tennant sing I’m gonna be (500 miles), I love awards season,’

Elsewhere in the night, Kylie’s fans joked she is ‘not in Calabasas anymore’ as David interacted with her and boyfriend Timothée Chalamet.

David joked that the Wonka actor was actually the ‘runner up’ of the Timothée Chalamet lookalike competition which he turned up to himself back in October.

David said: ‘We are very privileged tonight to be joined by the runner up in New York’s recent Timothée Chalamet competition. Welcome to the BAFTAs. I can see it young man. There is a definite likeness isn’t there. How long are you in London?’

Timothée replied: ‘Three days’.

David joked: ‘You got to work on the voice, not quite got the voice yet. Lovely attention to detail though he is with a Kylie Jenner lookalike.’

During the ceremony, Mikey Madison and Adrien Brody scooped top gongs for Best Actor and Actress at 2025 BAFTAs, while Conclave and The Brutalist equally led the pack with four awards.

For his starring role in The Brutalist and her lead part in Independent film Anora, Adrien, 51, and Mikey, 25, accepted their awards on stage.

The biggest night in British film returned with actor David Tennant as host and an array of guest presenters on hand to deliver awards throughout the night.

Up against a huge list of 10 nominees, Conclave – who won Best Film – came up triumphs in BAFTAs very unique category Outstanding British Film Award – adding to their previous two gongs for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing.

The Brutalist won four awards including Adrien’s Best Actor, impressive Best Director gong for the well-deserving Brady Corbet, Best Cinematography gong and Best Original Score.

Warwick Davis pulled on the audience’s heartstrings as he paid an emotional tribute to his late wife Samantha David, who passed away last year, in his acceptance speech after being honoured with a BAFTA Fellowship.
