Aly Michalka and her husband Stephen Ringer welcomed their first child – son Jack Francis – on the morning of April 21 at an Airbnb they rented in Santa Barbara, CA.
The 35-year-old Aly & AJ singer’s water broke two weeks early on April 19 and she was in natural, unmedicated labor for 50 hours – six of which were active labor – before delivering the 6lb10oz baby with help from a hired midwife and two doulas.
‘It was a very peaceful and calm birth, which is really what we were hoping for,’ Aly (born Alyson) told People on Monday.
‘He’s just a great little guy. He’s got a really special disposition about him.’
Michalka decided against giving birth in a hospital (where costly C-sections have become all too common) because ‘our medical system intervenes in ways that can be really harmful for women and really traumatic for not only themselves, but for their baby.’

The Huggies paid partner and the 39-year-old commercial director – who celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary last Friday – named their son Jack after her maternal grandfather and Francis is a family name on his side.
Aly and Stephen ‘definitely want to get him accustomed to traveling early on’ with a brand new US Passport, little ‘adventures to the beach and out to dinner,’ as well as joining her in the recording studio one week after his birth.
‘He took to the change really well. He was very much a little chameleon in that sense,’ Michalka said.
‘And I think we got lucky with the fact that he didn’t have really any major sleep issues.’
The SoCal native’s younger sister AJ Michalka – with whom she formed a musical duo in 2004 – was so excited to become an aunt and was already tasked with ‘decorating a bunk bed’ in a tour bus for Jack on the next tour.
Aly & AJ – who just signed with the agency UTA – have been hard at work recording their ‘splendid’ sixth studio album where they are ‘really leveling s*** up.’
The sister act – who get 1.5M monthly listeners on Spotify – are next scheduled to perform this Wednesday from 6pm-8pm at GLSEN’s LA Pride Reception inside The Chapel at The Abbey in West Hollywood.
‘Join us for an incredible evening as we raise funds to support safe and inclusive learning environments for all students,’ Aly & AJ wrote on Instagram of the gig.
