Actress Jean Allison, Star of Charlie’s Angels and Edge Of Fury, Dies at 94: Remembered for Diverse Roles in Perry Mason and Beyond

Jean Allison passed away at the age of 94 on February 28th – which was confirmed by her family in an obituary, per People.

Although the cause of death was not disclosed by her loved ones, the late actress passed away in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

The star is known for appearing in various television projects throughout the course of her career which spanned around three decades – such as Charlie’s Angels (1977) and also Bonanza (1960).

Allison was born on October 24, 1929 in New York City and graduated from Marymount High School. 

She later attended and also graduated from Adelphi College located in the state of New York.

Jean was scouted by an agent after her performance in a play titled, Teach Me How To Cry, which was written by Patricia Joudry. 

Her first credited role was in the anthology series General Electric Theater (1957), where she played the role of Ethel Keeley. 

From there, she took on nearly 100 credited roles, per the late actress’s official IMDB page. Aside from television, Allison also appeared on the big screen and starred in the 1958 film, Edgy Of Fury. 

The drama additionally cast Michael Higgins, Lois Holmes, Doris Fesette as well as Malcolm Lee Beggs. 

In 1960, she starred in one episode of Bonanza as the character of Sally Byrnes and appeared in the hit, legal drama series, Perry Mason, in 1961 also for one episode. 

Jean later also starred in the show, 77 Sunset Strip, as well as two episodes of Gunsmoke in 1970 and later again in 1974. 

Other shows she portrayed characters in include Adam-12 and also four episodes of Emergency!

Other films she starred in during her long-lasting career included Devil’s Partner (1960), The Elevator (1974), A Cry For Help (1975) and Hardcore (1979).  

Jean’s last credited acting role was in 1984 when she appeared in one episode of Highway To Heaven. 

In 1951, Allison tied the knot with fellow actor, Lee Philips – who also attended the same college as Jean. However, the pair later divorced. 

Four years later, the actress said ‘I do’ to F.X. Toole (Jerry Boyd) – who is known for writing Million Dollar Baby (2004).

The two welcomed a daughter, Erin, during the course of their marriage – which came to an end when they divorced in 1958, per IMDB. 

In 1960, she soon met Phil Toorvald, and the couple welcomed two children, Sven and Tina, while also adopting a third child. 

Jean and Phil were married until his death in 1994. Her later years were spent with cameraman, Jack Couffer. 

The two had first met decades earlier on the set of Edge Of Fury and formed a close bond until his death in 2021.
