Cannes Film Festival’s president Greta Gerwig attended the Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga on Wednesday night, after speaking out on France’s #MeToo movement.
The director, 40, who is behind last year’s blockbuster hit Barbie, was joined on the red carpet by the cast of Furiosa as well as director Judith Godrèche and her daughter Tess Barthelemy.
In a poignant move to promote her short, #MeToo film, Judith and her daughter covered their mouths with their hands as if they were being silenced.
Last week, the French parliament agreed to create a commission of inquiry to investigate sexual and gender-based violence in cinema and other cultural sectors after several recent allegations.
Judith has become a key figure in France’s MeToo movement since accusing directors Benoit Jacquot and Jacques Doillon of sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager. Both have denied the allegations.

Judith’s 17-minute short film ‘Moi Aussi’ will premiere at the festival on Wednesday and highlights the stories of victims of sexual violence
Judith has filed a legal complaint against the prominent arthouse director, over alleged abuse that occurred during a relationship that began when she was 14 and he was 25 years her senior.
She has also formally accused Jacques of abusing her as a 15-year-old actress in a film he directed.
Her 17-minute short film ‘Moi Aussi’ will premiere at the festival on Wednesday and highlights the stories of victims of sexual violence.
This year there have been concerns that the Cannes Film Festival would be overshadowed by claims of sexual assault amid claims that a ‘list’ of male film actors who have allegedly sexually abused women in the industry could be released.
The names, described as ‘explosive’, are believed to have been sent anonymously to the National Centre for Cinema in Paris, along with other leading film finance companies in France.
Asked about #MeToo expanding in France, Greta, who took to the red carpet in a red Armani Prive dress, told reporters in Cannes on Tuesday that it’s progress.
‘I think people in the community of movies telling us stories and trying to change things for the better is only good,’ she said.
‘I have seen substantive change in the American film community, and I think it´s important that we continue to expand that conversation. So I think it´s only moving everything in the correct direction. Keep those lines of communication open.’
