Soap fans have been left divided over Monday’s TV Choice Awards, which saw Emmerdale crowned Best Soap.
It won out over fellow ITV show Coronation Street and the BBC One’s Doctors and EastEnders in a controversial vote by the viewing public.
Emmerdale had another big win with Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle) landing Best Soap Actor, while Corrie’s Maureen Lipman (Evelyn Plummer) won Best Soap Actress.
But many fans of the other competitors were amazed by Emmerdale’s success, with one saying it was ‘very undeserved’.
Another added: ‘EastEnders was robbed.’

Many fans of the BBC’s flagship soap, EastEnders, took to X to express their disbelief at their soap of choice not being crowned
The BBC’s headline soap was the focus of attention after it failed to win in any of the relevant TV Choice categories.
Other X users reacting to the results commented: ‘We know that title [Best Soap] belongs to EastEnders…
‘Looks like you got EastEnders mixed up with Emmerdale, it’s understandable since both of those soaps start with E… [sic]
‘Best soap?! Do me a favour!…
‘Should’ve went to EastEnders.’
However, there were plenty of Emmerdale fans ready to go out and defend their favourite show, with its award-winning actor earning special praise.
They said: ‘Best soap ever!! Huge congratulations…
‘The right choice. Well done to everyone…
‘So happy for Jeff Hordley on his well deserved award. He’s one of the best actors out there but is so often overlooked! Well done all!…
‘Nice one! Huge congratulations- well deserved. Glad that it was Jeff’s year. What twists and turns Cain has gone through.’
The other big winner on the night was Happy Valley, which won Best Drama Series with its lead Sarah Lancashire winning Best Actress.
