SAG AWARDS 2025: Cynthia Erivo, Daniel Craig and Eddie Redmayne lead the Brits bagging nominations

A whole host of UK stars have been shortlisted for this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. 

Daniel Craig and Ralph Fiennes will battle it out for Best Actor while Cynthia Erivo has received a nomination for her role as Elphaba in the blockbuster hit, Wicked. 

The SAG Awards cancelled their in-person nominations event on Wednesday as wildfires continue to spread in Los Angeles. 

The ceremony will take place on February 23, and some the UK’s biggest stars of the season such as Nicola Coughlan, Andrew Scott and Baby Reindeer’s Richard Gadd being recognised. 

In the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role, Daniel has received a nod for his role as William Lee in Queer. 

The film follows American expat and war veteran William, who has a romance with a younger man, Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey). 

He will battle it out against fellow Brit Ralph Fiennes, who starred as Lawrence in Conclave.

In the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role, Daniel has received a nod for his role as William Lee in Queer 

He will battle it out against fellow Brit Ralph Fiennes, who starred as Lawrence in Conclave 

Ralph appeared as Cardinal Lomeli in the adaptation of the Robert Harris novel of the same name, which focused on the hypothetical behind-the-scenes story of what happens at the Vatican after the Pope dies. 

They have been shortlisted alongside Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Timothee Chalamet (A Complete Unknown) and Colman Domingo (Sing Sing). 

For Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, West End star Cynthia, 38, will face Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora) and Demi Moore (The Substance). 

Her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey, 36, who portrayed Fiyero in the musical, is up for Best Supporting Actor. 

And more UK stars have received nominations in the TV categories. 

Eddie Redmayne is up for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for The Day Of The Jackal. 

The British star, 42, takes on the lead role of an assassin and has to use a variety of disguises and aliases to remain undetected. 

The hit series has just been renewed for a second season after three million watched it in the first week.

Eddie will face fellow Brit Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) in the category.

The series, which is based on the Frederick Forsyth novel of the same name, stars Eddie [pictured] as the assassin being targeted by an intelligence officer

Eddie will face fellow Brit Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) in the category

For Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, Cynthia, 38, will face Pamela Anderson, Karla Sofía Gascón, Mikey Madison and Demi Moore

Baby Reindeer’s Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning continued their award season success by achieving nods in Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series respectively. 

Richard will face tough competition in the category against Colin Farrell (The Penguin) and Andrew Scott (Ripley).  

Javier Bardem (Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story) and Kevin Kline (Disclaimer) are also nominated. 

Nicola Coughlan has been shortlisted for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for playing Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton. 

She will face Kathy Bates (Matlock), Allison Janney (The Diplomat), Keri Russell (The Diplomat) and Anna Sawai (Shōgun). 

And British dramas have done well in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category. 

Bridgeton, The Day Of The Jackal and Slow Horses have all been nominated. 

The SAG Awards announced the cancellation of their in-person nominations event on Wednesday as wildfires continue to spread in Los Angeles. 

‘In an abundance of caution for the safety of our presenters, guests, and staff, the live in-person 31st Annual SAG Awards nominations announcement has been cancelled due to the wildfires and adverse wind conditions in Los Angeles,’ read a statement sent late on Tuesday night from SAG Awards organizers.

SAG Award nominated actress Joey King and Golden Globe Nominated actor Cooper Koch were originally set to announce the nominations at the live event. 

The 31st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will stream live globally on Netflix Sunday, February 23 from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall.

Firefighters battling the blaze in Pacific Palisades warned they were running out of water and supplies, as evacuation warnings spread to Malibu and Calabasas. 

Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency and FEMA approved a Fire Management Assistance Grant to provide critical resources for fire suppression efforts.

Residents were warned the worst is still yet to come as the raging wildfire burns through more than 2,900 acres of Los Angeles land at an extraordinary rate. 

At least 30,000 residents are now under mandatory evacuation orders with more still warned they should be prepared to leave, as new brush fires divert resources to Pasadena and Altadena near Eaton Canyon.
