Jodie Turner-Smith has opened up about how ‘hard’ her split from husband Joshua Jackson has been and admitted that getting divorced ‘sucks’ but she’s looking at the breakup as an opportunity for a ‘new beginning.’
During her first ever appearance on The View on Monday, Jodie, 37, mentioned the fact that her love life had previously been discussed on the daytime show as part of the Hot Topics segment – before proceeding to shed some personal light on her life amid her ex’s new romance with fellow actress Lupita Nyong’o.
Sunny Hostin began the conversation and asked: ‘You and your ex filed for divorce, which you said you didn’t consider to be a failure. Not all people see their situation that way, how did you get there, to that space?’ to which Jodie replied: ‘In a general sense, in life, I really do believe that life is coming from me and not at me.’
Jodie, who filed for divorce from Joshua in October 2023, continued: ‘And so I want to look at everything… and you know, I couldn’t have the career that I have if I looked at things that don’t work out as a failure, and I think when you look at it that way, then you kind of get stuck in a certain outcome.
‘Everything is an opportunity and it’s a new beginning, and yes, it’s hard, and it’s not easy, and it sucks, but do you know what’s even more exciting is what is on the other side of that, so here’s to the other side!’ she added as the live studio audience applauded her.

The panel were also keen to ask Jodie about her four-year-old daughter named Juno, whom she shares with her ex Joshua, 45.
Jodie said of her little girl: ‘You know something that’s really cute is… because obviously… being that I’m going through a separation with her dad, and even just being a working mom, when I’m going away somewhere, I say to my daughter, “you know, you can call me whenever you want”, and so she’s started echoing that.
‘Whenever she says goodbye to me, she’s like, “remember, if you need me, I’m here. You can call me any time”, and even if I’m working, like if I’m about to do a Zoom, she’s like, “remember I’m here for you if you need me”. I love that!’
TMZ first reported in October last year that Jodie had filed for divorce and and cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the split, while also asking for joint custody of Juno.
The date of separation was listed as September 13 – just one day after the pair attended New York Fashion Week together.
Weeks after Jodie officially filed for divorce, Joshua was photographed holding hands with Lupita Nyong’o, 40, hours after it was confirmed they were dating.
She first broke her silence on their split during an interview with Sunday Times Style magazine in February 2024.
‘Sometimes things we really want to work just don’t end up working, and that’s OK. The most important thing is that you choose what’s healthiest for you and your family and definitely your children,’ she said at the time.

‘There are so many different moments in our life where we look at ourselves and say, “Who am I and am I being true to that?” If the answer is no, then you have to make a move because I believe that there are visible scars from staying in places that are not good for us. And they don’t just affect us, they affect everybody around us.
‘I don’t think it’s a failure. We obviously had such a beautiful moment together. And now it’s time for a new moment for both of us. And how exciting!
‘The bravest thing in the world is to recognize when something’s not working and to make a move, and I always want to set that kind of example for my daughter.
‘The big takeaway is that this is about just as much love and joy as it has always been. This is only about taking a step forward into a better life for everybody involved,’ she added to the publication.
