Yolanda Hadid Defends Posting Photo of Gigi’s Daughter Amid Backlash

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Yolanda Hadid was criticized for sharing an ‘inappropriate’ snap of her granddaughter in an Instagram slideshow tribute in honor of her son Anwar Hadid’s 26th birthday on Sunday.

The Dutch 61-year-old included an image of her daughter Gigi Hadid’s four-year-old daughter Khai Malik wearing a popsicle-patterned floaty around her red short-sleeve, ruffled bathing suit while playing on a beach with her heavily-tattooed uncle.

‘This is really inappropriate,’ Instagram user @mery_ben_ blasted.

‘A child’s privacy should always be respected posting such a photo is not okay. Please think about how this might affect her in the future.’

Yolanda replied in the comments: ‘Please go and harass somebody else’s feed, you are not welcome here!’

Hadid (born van den Herik) included a second shot of little Khai – whose name translates to ‘crown’ in Arabic – also from behind to protect her anonymity, enjoying a ring-side view of a rodeo with her uncle.

The 30-year-old IMG Model welcomed the child during her on/off six-year romance with singer Zayn Malik, which ended after his 2021 altercation with the Holland’s Next Top Model judge, for which he received 360-day probation and was ordered to complete anger management and domestic violence programs.

‘There is the hard part of the world knowing this much, and thinking they know everything,’ Gigi (born Jelena) lamented to Vogue last March.

‘And at the end of the day, we’re not interested in giving everyone our whole story. What we are interested in is raising our daughter together. With so much respect for each other, and not just as co-parents, but what we’ve been through together.’

Last Wednesday, the Guest in Residence founder shared an Instagram snap of Khai eagerly digging into a frosted mini-cupcake during a summer break celebration that also included two cookie ‘cakes.’

Fans might recall how much Yolanda pressured her daughter to only eat a tiny bite of the large cake at her own graduation party during a 2014 episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

But now as executive chef ‘Mama’ – Gigi prepares Khai’s breakfast menu with a choice of beverages and food options including pancakes, bacon, sausage, toast, Nutella French toast roll-ups, bagel with cream cheese, bread with ‘Holland’ cheese, and Overnight Oats.

Instagram user @thesarcasticbrunette commented: ‘The fact that Gigi’s mum wouldn’t even let her daughter have some cake to her feeding her own daughter whatever she wants is so wholesome!’

Hadid welcomed Anwar, Gigi, and her 28-year-old daughter Bella Hadid during her six-year marriage to real estate mogul Mohamed Hadid, which ended in 2000.
