A young Irish woman has revealed the financial and physical toll she suffers from her rare medical condition, which sees her breasts continue to grow each month.
Summer Robert has been diagnosed with macromastia, a type of breast hypertrophy which sees her chest become excessively large over time.Â
The 25-year-old tells Daily Mail she has spent years being harassed in public and dismissed by doctors, but the worst of it all is the amount she spends on bras.Â
‘I once bought a custom bra from a local shop for £800 (AU$1,605), it funnily enough broke in a month like they all do,’ she says.
‘My bust goes up a little bit every month, it depends mostly. I’ve had months where I grow two sizes I’ve had months where I stay the same.’
Summer says she was already a B–cup by the age of 10, and by 16 she had grown to a double J, forcing her to rely on corsets and specially made bras worth hundreds.

Her chest is now estimated to weigh 25kg, placing a burden on her physical and mental health.Â
‘I had always put my condition down to just normal growing,’ she says of her younger years.
‘It was only until I realised my friends around me had stopped years and years before me that it was a serious condition.Â
‘I have been going to the doctors since I was 16 about my boobs and only a few years ago I actually got diagnosed.’
Summer claims she spent years searching for medical help in the form of a breast reduction, but was repeatedly denied.
The UK woman says she also struggles with public harassment – everything from catcalling to judgmental stares. Â
‘I’ve had a man touching himself in front of me on the subway. I’ve had grown men grope me at work and say I’m asking for it wearing low cut tops,’ she recalls.
‘I once had a group of around 5 guys circle around me at the gym just staring at me working out.Â

‘I once had a woman throw a drink over me because her husband was looking at my chest, I didn’t even see her husband.’
Summer says despite the cruel comments and vile harassment she has received, she feels ‘lucky’ to be surrounded by ‘lots of friends and family when I go out’. Â
Nowadays, Summer has learned to enjoy the novelty of having ever-growing breasts and jokes it could be ‘cool’ to become ‘one walking boob’. Â
‘It’s definitely a journey. I think the biggest mission is trying to get clothes and feel comfortable in them,’ she says.
‘I love my body, my body has never been the problem. I wish I could walk about naked and everyone see how much I love it.’
She says one of her biggest difficulties when it comes to her body now is just ‘trying to dress it up’. Â
