Will Smith embarrasses Aussie artist: ‘What have I done?’

An internet-famous Australian artist has shared the moment he was left red-faced during an apparent exchange with Hollywood megastar Will Smith.

Sam Cotton, widely known for his hilarious animation videos, took to Instagram on Monday to post a direct message he claims to have received from the actor, 55.

The screenshot showed a message seemingly sent by Will asking Sam to collaborate, prompting the social media star to quickly send an excited message back agreeing.

However, he was quickly left red-faced when he sent Will a unique collaboration idea about frozen peas, and claimed he has not heard from the American star since.

The message purportedly sent by Will on June 3 read: ‘Hey Sam! Was just looking at your stuff, love the creativity. What could we do to collaborate?’

To which Sam – who has more than 1million Instagram followers – replied: ‘HELL YES WILL!!! Almost passed out reading this. Let me brainstorm some ideas today and send them over to you! Thank you for the kind words mate!’

Sam, who is famous for creating amusing talking animations of inanimate objects, then claimed to have sent Will a voice message detailing a collaboration idea about frozen peas.

In the message, Sam explained how the animation would see Will open his freezer and pull out an old and forgotten back of frozen peas, before having an amusing exchange with them.

He detailed: ‘Everyone has this item in their freezer that they’ve forgotten about and has been there for years. You open up your freezer and in the back corner is these frozen peas from 1996.

‘As you pull them out it’s like defrosting a cave man from the past. As it wakes up, it’s all confused like ”Where am I? What year is this? Will is that you?”

‘Then you have to apologise because you completely forgot about him and he doesn’t know how successful you’ve become so he’s like ”how did that audition for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air go? Did it go alright?”

‘Anyway, you have this wholesome catch-up but it ends with you just chucking him in the bin, you know? Anyway that’s just an idea about peas, I’ve got other ideas too if you’re keen.’

However, it seems that Will wasn’t a fan of the unique idea as Sam claimed he has not heard from him in the month since their exchange, leaving him red-faced.

Sharing the messages to Instagram, he captioned the post: ‘Guys, what have I done? Will Smith messaged me about collaborating and I sent him an idea about talking to frozen peas and then I never heard from him again. What was I thinking?’

Although Will was seemingly not on-board with the pitch, he had an array of famous names flocking to the comments section to share their approval.

American actor and producer David Arquette – the ex-husband of Courteney Cox – wrote: ‘I loved the idea for what it’s worth.’

While Love Island Australia host Sophie Monk also showed her support as she commented: ‘Best idea too.’

MasterChef Australia judge Poh Ling Yeow added: ‘How mysterious.’

And Colin From Accounts’ co-creator Patrick Brammall wrote: ‘I love this so much. Like, a lot. The fact that it happened, that you didn’t hear back, that you shared it, that he might still be getting back to you. Top notch.’

Responding to Patrick’s comment, Sam admitted: ‘I’ve been getting more and more self conscious about the idea with every passing day…’

His fans also took to the comments to share their hopes that Will agrees to the sketch in a thread of pun-filled remarks, even suggesting The Fresh Peas of Bel-Air as a title.

One quipped: ‘That’s so much funnier than actually collaborating with him.’

Another wrote: ‘Fresh Peas from Bel-Air,’ while a third joked: ‘Maybe he’s made his peas with the situation.’

A fourth commented: ‘And just like that you were forgotten in the same way those peas were. Poetic.’

While a fifth added: ‘I’ve heard @willsmith is really hard to a peas.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Will’s representatives for comment.
