As the premiere date for the much-anticipated live-action Wicked film fast approaches, a brand new featurette and poster for the upcoming Wicked film just dropped.
On the poster, leading ladies Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo can be seen holding hands and staring into each other’s eyes, with Oz and Shiz University in the background.
Both actresses are fully dressed in their iconic costumes, with Grande in her sparkling pink gown as Galinda Upland, a popular young woman who later becomes Glinda the Good.
Then there’s Cynthia Erivo in her wickedly garb, for her role as Elphaba Thropp, a misunderstood young woman born with green skin who later becomes the Wicked Witch of the West.
In the new video teaser, the two stars, along with director Jon M. Chu and co-star Jonathan Bailey, talk about the characters bond and the power of friendship, while also showing more footage from the highly-anticipated movie musical.
The promotional push for the live-action film adaption of Wicked continued with the release of a new poster showing stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo holding hands and staring into each other’s eyes, with Oz and Shiz University in the background
‘Wicked to me, at its very core, is about friendship,’ Chu, 44, explained. ‘And it starts with a really fun look at how these two young women were so different from each other, are forced to be roommates and don’t get along at all.’
‘And so we have to learn about each other to get to know each other,’ Erivo chimes in on the storyline.
‘These two very different women just fall completely in love with each other,’ The Thank U, Next star, 31, adds. ‘And that is mirrored experience of what happened with Cynthia and I.’
Erivo chimes in, ‘We just sort of… I got chills. We both just like found each other, I guess… We just got each other immediately.’
‘We just got each other immediately,’ the British actress, 37, shared of their bond as women and their incredible chemistry on screen.
‘There’s a wild sort of soul connection between the two of them that’s such a complimenting chemistry, but they are so different,’ co-star Jonathan Bailey, 36, said of the relationship between the two stars.
In the wake of the release of the new promos, some fans are speculating that one of the original stars of the Wicked play will appear in the new live-action movie version.
The star in question is Kristin Chenoweth, who played Glinda in the very first stage adaptation of the story at the George Gershwin Theatre in 2003-2004.
The promotional push also included a new featurette showing the stars in scenes from the film, as well as Erivo and Grande taking about their incedible chemistry on and off screen
‘Wicked to me, at its very core, is about friendship,’ director Jon M. Chu, 44, explained. ‘And it starts with a really fun look at how these two young women were so different from each other, are forced to be roommates and don’t get along at all.’
Those inquisitive fans think they spotted Chenoweth’s signature blond locks standing just behind Grande, who’s at a side angle while chatting with her co-star.
While the character in question is not clearly seen in the photo or clip, they believe the Broadway legend is the one who has her hair styled in an elaborate up-do.
In fact, the scene in question appears around the 1:54 mark in the featurette.
If in fact Chenoweth is in the upcoming Wicked film, then it begs the question of whether actress Idina Menzel, who originated the role of Elphaba, will also make a cameo.
Along with Eviro and Grande, the cast also includes Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle, Peter Dinklage, Aaron Teoh, Grecia de la Paz, Colin Michael Carmichael, Adam James, and Andy Nyman.
The movie is about an unlikely friendship emerges between Elphaba and Glinda, two clashing witches in the magical land of Oz.

Some fans are convinced that they spotted Kristin Chenoweth, who played Glinda in the very first stage adaptation of the story at the George Gershwin Theatre in 2003-2004, is in the background of a scene, just behind Grande, which captured at 1:54 of the new featurette
Elphaba is wrongfully cast as a wicked witch as she seeks to expose the fraudulent, corrupt Wizard who rules the land.
Wicked is the origin story of ‘a green-skinned woman who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West.’
It serves as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, exploring the narrative before Dorothy’s arrival and delving into the former friendship between the characters Elphaba and Glinda.
Wicked is scheduled to drop on November 27, and then a direct sequel, Wicked Part Two, will follow a year later.
