Whoopi Goldberg Reveals Weight Loss and Accidental Weight Gain

Whoopi Goldberg has been open about her ‘new body,’ showing it off on The View and discussing in detail her weight loss journey – including the downsides.

Now, the veteran actress has finally revealed just how many pounds she dropped, and the freak accident that resulted in her using weight loss drug Mounjaro.

‘I had to do those shots because I got sciatica,’ Goldberg told the Daily Mail, adding that she ‘had smashed the vertebrae in between the bones, doing something I told people specifically not to do, which was to run on wet grass.’

‘I was running like Fred Flintstone,’ she said. ‘And I slipped, went up in the air, did a flip, and came back to the ground.’

Weeks later, the Oscar-winning actress accidentally overdid it, after walking around unaware of how much damage she had done.

The pain led to her taking steroids while making the film Till, which is based on the true story of Mamie Till, an educator and activist in 1955. As a result, her weight increased to 270 pounds.

Goldberg, 69, revealed the exact amount of weight she really lost to the Daily Mail, disclosing she lost ‘about 180’ pounds in total with help from Mounjaro

But despite shifting the pounds, Goldberg said many people do not realize the extent of her weight loss because her ‘clothes are always big, so no one can ever tell what’s going on under there.’

Gooldberg admitted to using the controversial weight loss drug back in 2024 and defended her right to use it, saying people need to ‘stop judging everybody’ on their appearance.

Despite feeling better, Godberg did detail the downsides, joking ‘it’s cold as hell out here. I have no ass.’

She also revealed people are starting to get concerned about her weight, with one person recently telling her: ‘You need to eat something.’

Goldberg admitted that it’s not that she’s not eating, it’s simply that she doesn’t like food because it ‘never did it’ for her.

Instead, Goldberg acknowledged that her vice was vaping, which she has since given up.

‘Food never did it for me, but all kinds of other things did, and now I’m paying for it,’ she said. ‘I don’t do anything now. It’s terrible.

‘I used to have a great vaping life, no more vaping, no more nothing. So, just straight as an arrow.’

Back in 2016, the outspoken marijuana fan publicly embraced the pastime, and even launched a line of products featuring the drug. The products claimed to help women who suffer from menstrual cramps.

At the time, Goldberg said the products were for people who ‘don’t want to get high high,’ but wanted to relieve their period pain in a calming and relaxing way.

Goildberg is no stranger to dealing with pain. The EGOT winner previously had to use a walker while dealing with sciatica and called it her ‘best friend’. At the time, she described the health issue as a ‘bulging disc’ in her back that ‘impacts the sciatic nerve, which sends pain down your leg.’

She also had double pneumonia and almost died from sepsis in 2019.

In 2023, Goldberg revealed she was ‘happy to be alive’ and told fans it was a ‘privilege’ following the string of health scares.
