Last year, Michael said he wants to be the next ‘king’ of Australian TV.
He said he is out to beat the 21 years David ‘Kochie’ Koch spent as host of Seven’s Sunrise.
‘I want to smash Kochie’s record,’ he joked about the retired Seven star in an interview with TV Tonight.
Michael has already spent 15 on the couch at News Breakfast, and he believes he is good for another eight, which will beat Koch’s record.

‘I’m feeling probably the fittest I felt in a few years,’ said Michael, who co-hosts News Breakfast with Lisa Millar.
‘You have peaks and troughs doing crazy hours,’ he added.
‘But I love the show. I’ve always told people It’s the best job in broadcast TV…I’m so lucky to be in this position. I’m loving it. Watch out Kochie I’m coming for your record.’
