Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott have split up after five years together.
The couple decided to end their relationship, which has seen them travel and build a home together, after growing apart.
A source close to the couple told MailOnline: ‘Sam and Zara have ended their relationship. It’s been an incredibly difficult decision for them to part ways, they still care and have a lot of love for each other.’
But there have been signs of trouble in paradise for some time from accusations of public arguments to Zara’s memorable cheating scandal.
They had also spent an increased amount of time apart recently after Sam flew to Australia to host the I’m A Celebrity spin-off show with Zara staying in the UK.
As they go their separate ways in the New Year, MailOnline takes a look at where it all went wrong for Sam and Zara.

The pair endured a rocky period quite early on in their relationship when Zara admitted she had cheated on Sam in 2019, the same year they began dating.
Zara addressed her infidelity in an Instagram post, writing: ‘A huge mistake I made a year ago has recently come to light and I want to face this head on.
‘I don’t condone being unfaithful and I made a huge mistake at a time in my life where I was hugely selfish and immature.
‘I believe I have learnt so much from my mistake. I want to apologise to my Sam for everything I have put him through, for the pain, the embarrassment, the anger and the hurt.
‘All I want to do is make this right and I think the least he deserves is me being honest with myself and all of you. I love you Sam. Forever x’.
A source revealed the tryst took place between Zara and ‘someone in the music industry’ around the time she took part in X Factor: Celebrity.
Although they split up after Zara admitted to cheating, Sam eventually forgave her and they got back together.
Things appeared mostly rosy between the pair after they reunited but there were some signs of trouble.

The couple attended an afterparty for Soccer Aid and Zara appeared frustrated as she visibly waved her arms around while deep in a tense chat.
However, Zara insisted at the time they were merely having a ‘passionate’ conversation and no argument took place.
She wrote on Instagram: ‘Why did this make me laugh so much btw [laughing emojis] ‘Stop saying you should have scored!!!! You did your best and that’s all that matters!! You need to stop doubting yourself!!!’
‘It looks like we are having an argument but I’m actually telling him positive affirmations in a very passionate manner.’
Zara also had a close relationship with Sam’s sister Louise, who lives next door to the couple with fiancé Ryan Libbey and their three-year-old son Leo.
Louise is a regular fixture on Zara’s Instagram with the pair frequently posting contennt together. However their collabs had grown less frequent recently.
They appeared with each other in a sponsored post at the beginning of December but prior to that had not been together since September.

The couple struggled to make their relationship work after Sam won I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! last year and his work schedule doubled.
After earning a new presenting gig on ITV’s This Morning, Sam spent the end of 2024 in Australia co-hosting I’m A Celebrity spinoff Unpacked alongside Joel Dommett and Kemi Rodgers.
Zara was unable to go to Australia with him as she was filming a documentary for the BBC at the time.
She also was unable to fly out to greet him on the bridge after he won I’m A Celebrity in 2023 as she was still taking part in Strictly Come Dancing at the time.
Sam has also struggled with his mental health in recent times. He previously revealed he suffered a panic attack on his first day in the I’m a Celebrity camp.
Despite going on to win the ITV show, the reality star, 32, detailed how the pressure he felt on the first day as a contestant led to him, ‘hyperventilating’.

The former Made in Chelsea star said: ‘I actually had a panic attack on my first day here. I’ve been a fan of the show for 20 years and I remember sitting on the living room floor watching the show with my parents.
‘But then when I got here it was like Jumanji. I had a panic attack because I couldn’t believe I was actually here.
‘I thought maybe I’m way out of my depth and I’m better as a viewer and I started hyperventilating.’
The couple were last seen together celebrating Zara’s birthday in December, where Sam dedicated an Instagram post to his girlfriend, calling her his ‘soulmate’ and ‘best friend.’
Less than a week later, the former E4 star was pictured outside strip club Stringfellows on a 4am bender with TOWIE’s Pete Wicks.
They also had separate Christmases after Sam volunteered for a charity and Zara stayed with her close family in Upminster, Essex.
Sam celebrated New Year’s Eve by partying with his ex-Made In Chelsea co-stars Reza Amiri-Garroussi and Josh Patterson at London’s Kensington Roof Gardens, downing shots, while Zara spent the evening at home with her cats.
