Wendy Williams’ Neurologist Reveals Shocking Update on Dementia Amid Guardianship Battle

A neurologist has reportedly concluded that Wendy Williams does not actually have frontotemporal dementia, two years after she was diagnosed with the condition.

Williams, 61, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia in 2023, but has insisted she’s not incapacitated and wants out of the guardianship, claiming she’s being controlled against her will.

Now, a neurologist has determined Williams does not actually have the disease after she underwent a series of tests in New York City, according to TMZ. The results were submitted to her legal team late last month.

According to numerous experts the outlet spoke with, those with the condition never improve and only continue to decline.

In contrast, the publication notes that Williams has demonstrated ‘remarkable neurological resilience’ since she became sober three years ago. Despite this, the guardianship persists.

Williams’ legal team will begin taking steps to terminate the guardianship in the next two weeks, according to TMZ.

They will file legal documents with the court, clearing the path for a hearing in which they intend on asking the judge to end the legal arrangement.

Williams’ lawyer Joe Tacopina reportedly intends on demanding a trial by jury in which he will ask jurors to end the guardianship if the judge shuts down their initial request.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Williams’ court-appointed guardian Sabrina Morrisey and her lawyer Tacopina for comment.

Williams recently attended the wedding of her lawyer’s son Chris Tacopina, and was included in a post he uploaded celebrating the nuptials.

She also attended the LaQuen Smith and Bach Mai fashion shows during New York Fashion Week in September.

Williams’ care team announced she had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and primary progressive aphasia in 2024, saying she had undergone ‘a battery of medical tests’ before arriving at the diagnosis.

She has been under a guardianship since 2022.

Williams’ guardianship, which gave control of her personal and financial affairs to a court-appointed guardian, came after her bank flagged concerns about her mental health and potential financial exploitation.

She is currently staying at the Coterie – an assisted-living facility in Hudson Yards, New York.

Her stint at the facility more than two years after the dementia diagnosis comes at the say-so of Morrissey, her legal guardian.

Williams spoke with The New York Magazine in a piece about her ire over her current living situation in the memory unit of the Coterie.

The talk show legend provided the publication with a reasons why she thinks staying in a room at the Coterie makes for ‘a f*****-up situation.’

‘Did you see the people? The elderly people? Why do I want to look at that?’ Williams said. ‘I can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked that I be moved from this floor.’

She also said in a TMZ segment, ‘This building is for people 60 and above. And I don’t care that I’m 61 – I am gorgeous.’

Williams said she has been keeping her spirits up by attending church services in Brooklyn regularly.

‘It gives me faith,’ she said, ‘and keeps me very well in touch with God and myself.’

The media personality, who was seen attending New York Fashion Week events last month, added, ‘You know I’ve been out. So obviously I do go out.’
