Wendy Williams’ family has launched a GoFundMe to raise $50,000 so they can free the star from the ‘loneliness and deep isolation’ of her conservatorship.
The fundraiser was created on January 15 by the family of the beloved American television host, 60, as per The U.S. Sun.
It was launched just before Williams — who was diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in May 2023 — called into The Breakfast Club to plead for her freedom from the controversial guardianship, which she compared to a ‘prison.’
Wendy was placed under a court-ordered legal guardianship that oversees both her finances and health in May 2022.
The GoFundMe campaign has so far raised $12,171 of its $50,000 goal. A heartwarming photo on the fundraiser page shows Wendy with her niece Alex Finnie.
The description of the GoFundMe reads: ‘For far too long, Wendy has faced the challenges of being unjustly placed under guardianship and labeled as incapacitated, despite her strong will and determination to live her life independently.’

Legal services can be prohibitively expensive, and without our support, they may struggle to navigate the complexities of the situation.’

Wendy seemed relaxed and in good spirits as she posed for a selfie with Alex at what appeared to be a family dinner.
Alex also uploaded a short clip of the pair, in which she placed a loving kiss on the former radio personality’s cheek.
‘It’s the most wonderful time of the year [heart emoji] #FamilyOverEverything #MyHeart,’ Alex wrote in the caption.
Last year Wendy’s brother, Tommy Williams, claimed the former talk show host was ‘stuck’ in a treatment facility as he urged for her release.
It’s unclear which family members are behind the new fundraiser, but Wendy also shares son Kevin Jr., 24, with ex-husband Kevin Hunter, 52.
It comes after Williams’ attorney defended the decision to have her in a guardianship after the former talk show host’s plea for her freedom.
After Williams called into The Breakfast Club radio show and insisted she is not ‘cognitively impaired,’ her attorney Roberta Kaplan stated otherwise, per TMZ.
She explained that Williams is dealing with frontal lobe dementia and emphasized that it is a neurological disease with no cure.

senting Williams in her lawsuit against A&E for producing the documentary, Where Is Wendy Williams? — also explained that a state court declared Williams is unable to make legal and financial decisions on her own.
Her attorney said she will require care for the rest of her life due to the degenerative nature of the disease.

Kaplan also said that Williams has bad days and she also has good days when she has a lot of clarify, like when she called into The Breakfast Club on Thursday morning.
On the morning radio show, Williams told co-host Charlamagne tha God about how she felt like she was imprisoned due to her controversial guardianship and said her life is ‘f***ed up.’
She also slammed her legal guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, during the call and claimed she has been isolated from her family.
Due to the guardianship court order, Morrissey is prohibited from commenting on the story.
Williams also alleged that the consistent interactions she has anymore are when her ‘nursemaids’ give her her medication.
During the show, the former shock jock sobbed as she described her current situation as ’emotional abuse.’
‘I am not cognitively impaired, but I feel like I am in prison,’ she told the radio show hosts. ‘I am definitely isolated.’
She added: ‘To talk to these people who live here, that is not my cup of tea. I keep the door closed.’
The television personality described the stark nature of her daily life after being put under the guardianship.

The TV star revealed that she ultimately hopes to move to Florida so she can live there with her family.
For now the star is just focused on being able to travel out to Miami next month in order to celebrate her beloved dad’s birthday.
Wendy was last in Florida in December 2024 to see her son Kevin Hunter Jr. graduate from Florida International University.
