Wayne Brady has announced that he secretly welcomed a son called Val Henry with his ex-girlfriend Tina over a year ago.
Tina and Wayne conducted an on-off romance during the coronavirus pandemic, and she discovered she was pregnant with his baby in early 2022.
The 52-year-old comedian found out Tina was expecting just weeks after the funeral of his grandmother Valerie Petersen, who raised him.
As a result, he honored Valerie’s memory by naming his son after her – and now he has shared his baby joy with the world.
‘I never want Val to grow up thinking that he should be ashamed or look back and go: “Oh, my dad didn’t want me, or he was ashamed of me,”‘ Wayne told People.

Wayne already has a 21-year-old daughter called Maile with his ex-wife Mandie Taketa, 48, whom he was married to from 1999 until 2007.
In the aftermath of the divorce, Mandie struck up a romance with one of Wayne’s backup dancers, Jason Fordham, 40.
Mandie and Jason, who have remained close friends with Wayne, are still together and now share a two-year-old son of their own called Sundance.
Wayne, Mandie, Jason and Maile all live within an eight-minute radius by car and refer to themselves collectively as the ‘Core Four.’
Now Wayne wants his new baby ‘in his own way, to know that I love him as much as I love Maile, who is of me and that I had a part in creating. So I had to do that work.’
He confessed that he was initially ‘shocked’ to learn Tina was expecting and at one point ‘asked the silly question that I think many men since the beginning of time have asked. “How?” You know how! So get past it.’
Wayne is able to have daily FaceTime calls with his new son and visits him as often as he can manage, but does not live near Tina.
His behavior with Val is ‘super sweet, because it’s the little guy,’ said Wayne. ‘It’s a different type of parenting than when Maile was born, because [Mandie and I] were together… It’s a completely different form of co-parenting.’

Wayne also offered a glimpse into how he plans to raise his son, saying: ”I’m going to nurture him, and I’m going to let him flower and let him do his thing.’
He explained that Val ‘will have boundaries, but he’s never going to grow up feeling like he can’t talk. To this day, I can recall when I know that I’m not supposed to speak. I can feel the tightness right here when I know that I’m supposed to just sit down and be quiet – and I don’t want that for him.’
Jason, who has a toddler of his own at home, hopes to be of assistance to Wayne as ‘I’m in it with Sundance, you know what I mean?’
He shared: ‘You go back to the diapers and all that stuff. That’s what came to mind…. I’m like: “Okay, let’s save this stuff. Sundance outgrew it, but little one’s on the way.” And then I start kind of thinking like that. “Okay, we got this stroller.”‘

Val’s arrival ‘came out of left field in a lot of ways,’ Maile explained, adding: ‘I learned this phrase: “Not my circus, not my monkeys,” and I was like: “All right, cool. Have fun with that. I am 21 now. It’s not my baby.”‘
However she did note: ‘This is kind of an opportunity for all of us to grow up and see how that dynamic works as individuals.’
She is also pleased that Val and Tina will be included on the family’s new reality show Wayne Brady: The Family Remix on Freeform.

He also disclosed that he underwent ‘all the therapy I could do,’ even to the point of being ‘treated for love addiction,’ via People.
‘It’s a part of my journey. I had to start examining why I was looking for myself and happiness in a slew of people,’ said the Who’s Line Is It Anyway? regular.
