Wallace & Gromit to Receive Special Award at National Television Awards

They’ve captured the hearts of British TV fans for over 30 years, creating commotion wherever they go.

And British institution Wallace & Gromit will finally get its applause as this year’s recipient of the NTAs’ Special Recognition Award.

At this year’s 30th National Television Awards, broadcast live from London’s O2 and on ITV1 and ITVX on September 10, the iconic duo will be celebrated with the gong.

In typical Wallace & Gromit fashion fans can look forward to the pair accepting the gong from the comfort of their home in West Wallaby Street in a specially-created film, set to be broadcast live at the ceremony.

NTA’s host Joel Dommet said of the duo’s recognition: ‘Wallace & Gromit aren’t just characters – they’re part of our cultural DNA.

‘Generations have grown up laughing at Wallace’s madcap ideas and cheering for Gromit’s quiet brilliance. They’re clever, quintessentially British, and endlessly loveable.’

He added: ‘I can’t think of a more perfect recipient for our 30th Special Recognition Award – it’s going to be a very special moment on the night!’

The gong is a welcome piece of joy for the pair after the show lost out the Best Animated Feature Award to little known Latvian film Flow at this year’s Oscars in a shock result.

Wallace & Gromit’s 70-minute long movie premiered on Christmas Day and features the return of the iconic supervillain Feathers McGraw.

Meanwhile Flow features no dialogue and follows a group animals in a post-human world, trying to survive as the water level dramatically rises around them.

Following the announcement furious fans took to to X to slam the Academy’s decision and even accused the ceremony of being ‘rigged’.

They wrote: ‘Wallace and Gromit should have won the Oscar! Rigged!’; ‘The next Wallace and Gromit Film is just Feathers McGraw stealing the Oscar from Flow’;

‘Wallace and Gromit was Robbed!’; ‘Nobody speak to me. Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl just lost and Oscar’.

During the ceremony, the film’s creators Richard Beek, Nick Park, and Merlin Crossingham posed proudly with mini statues of the smartly dressed claymation characters on the star-studded red carpet.

The dastardly penguin also made the journey from the Aardman Animation’s Bristol base alongside robot gnome co-star Norbot.

Just months before, fans were sent into a frenzy when the ‘iconic’ figurines made a mini appearance at the 2025 BAFTA Awards as they were nominated for for new category award.

A representative of Aardvark Productions displayed the two famed characters behind their own mini picture wall as they graced the Royal Festival Hall red carpet.

The two characters joined their co-star Norbot the gnome who starred in the latest flick, Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.

Wallace & Gromit bagged two BAFTAs during the evening including Best Animation and Best Children’s and Family Film award – but lost out in the Outstanding British Film category.

The three figurines went all out for their appearance as each sported a sparkly red dickie bow.
