Vogue Williams Surprises Spencer Matthews During Marathon Challenge

Vogue Williams surprised her husband Spencer Matthews live on Lorraine on Tuesday, as he continued his gruelling marathon challenge in Jordan.

The Made In Chelsea star, 36, is running a whopping 30 marathons in 30 days across the desert in the peak of summer for Global’s Make Some Noise charity.

He aims to complete a Guinness World Record for the ‘most consecutive marathons on sand’, and completed number 23 on Tuesday morning.

Appearing on Lorraine by video link, Spencer was interviewed by host Ranvir Singh to discuss the challenge, but was surprised to also see his wife Vogue, 38, beside her.

The mother-of-three was at the ITV studios to present a fashion segment on This Morning, but took the opportunity to gatecrash her husband’s interview.

Addressing a surprised Spencer, she said: ‘Hi Spenno, I didn’t even tell him I was doing this. Morning!’

Spencer beamed as he replied: ‘How surprising, you look absolutely gorgeous my love’.

Vogue then quipped: ‘I don’t recognise you with your top on!’ causing Spencer to respond: ‘Well you know, morning television and all, I have to keep it on.’

Ranvir congratulated Spencer on his efforts so far and asked him what he thought about to stay focussed while running.

The reality star admitted: ‘I think about Vogue and the kids a lot, I’m not just saying that because she’s sat there!’

He went on: ‘I spend most of my time with Vogue and the kids when I’m not working, so obviously it’s a bit of a shift. But we’ve had a plan we’re trying to execute, we’re doing a good job out and so far we’re on track.

‘But I think about Vogue and the kids all the time, I try to be in touch whenever I can be. Unfortunately signal is not something that is everywhere, but when I do have signal I try to be in touch. But I do feel like they’re on the journey with me.’

Vogue then revealed she had a video for Spencer from their three children, Theodore, five, Gigi, four, and two-year-old Otto.

The adorable clip saw Gigi saying: ‘Good luck daddy!’ as Theo said: ‘Good luck Daddy I hope you have a good marathon!’

Gigi then sweetly added: ‘And I love you’ before she was interrupted by Otto grabbing the phone and insisting: ‘That’s mine!’

Spencer looked delighted by the video message and laughed: ‘He loves the phone! I feel like whenever I call home to chat to Vogue or the older kids on account of them being able to chat, I usually get palmed off to Otto almost immediately and he just kind of runs into a room with me and stares at the phone and doesn’t say anything. So I’ve seen a lot of him.’

He then opened up about taking on the brutal physical challenge of running so many miles through such extreme heat and sometimes difficult terrain.

He explained: ‘The beauty of the place does make it easier. It’s got incredible canyons and beautiful cliff faces, all dark red and deep red sands. So it’s an interesting place to run obviously, it does beat laps of Battersea Park.

‘The heat is quite tremendous, it is really hot and the terrain is pretty troublesome as well at times. You can get lucky and get some firmer sand and clock in a few easy kilometers.

‘But you can get unlucky like I was today and marathon 23 was just a complete grind. It was so much uphill lots of mountains and it was just never ending. But hopefully we’ll use it as good experience, bank it and move on – get the other seven done.’

Inspired by her husband, Vogue has also undergone her own 30 day challenge, by running 5k every day for 30 days.

Praising her efforts, Spencer also took the opportunity to gush about how supportive she has been with taking care of their kids while he is taking on his challenge, calling her ‘such a cool wife’.

He said: ‘I think what Vogue’s doing is amazing, and beyond the 5k that she’s running every day, supporting me in general through this particularly dream of achieving this is just such a wonderful thing for my wife to do.

‘Obviously, I wouldn’t be able to do it without the family’s support. Vogue is at home looking after our incredible children whilst I try and raise as much money as I possibly can out here. But I’m deeply thankful, I’m really lucky to have such a cool wife.’

A touched Vogue replied: ‘You’re the cool one Spenno. Love you!’

Earlier this month, Spencer spoke about how he was missing Vogue while in the desert, during an appearance on Heart Breakfast with JK and Kelly Brook.

He explained the couple get in ‘touch’ when they can, however, there’s ‘very bad service’ where he is.

He then added: ‘I speak to Vogue when I can. I love her so much, really miss her. I think she’s more comfortable than she was before, with nine in the bag, and I can’t wait to see her.’

As he comes to the end of the epic physical journey, Spencer admitted last week that his body feels like it’s been ‘put in the tumble dryer’.

As he comes to the end of the epic physical journey, Spencer admitted last week that his body feels like it’s been ‘put in the tumble dryer’

He revealed he had to battle ‘horrendous’ attacks and cannot stand still because he would be bitten by flies.

He also explained that between his daily 15 hour running stints, he will only ever catch four to five hours of sleep and has become so exhausted he has even started to fall asleep while running.

Speaking on Capital Breakfast, Spencer said: ‘The flies are no good. Like, of all the things. I think if the team were given the choice to actually run into a hyena or get rid of the flies, we might choose the hyena, because there’s five of us.’

He added: ‘But also, I can’t stress enough the sleep. It’s like, you’re very, very lucky to get between four-and-a-half and five hours sleep.

‘Repeat that 15 times whilst running 15 marathons in the desert, your body just starts to react really poorly to that. It’s really easy to fall into extreme negative headspace.

‘I’m half asleep for the first 10km of every day. Like, if I was to close my eyes running the first 10km, I’d hit the deck type thing. We call them free kilometres, because you’re not even conscious, basically.’

But he continued: ‘But as well, listen, like it is rough and it is hard, but I would also like to say that we’re having an amazing time. It’s an incredible journey, I feel very privileged to be able to run in this part of the world.

‘And, you know, for such a great cause, raising money for Global’s Make Some Noise is driving us forward and it is a real pleasure. But yeah, it’s pretty tough. I’ve ran over 630km so far.’

Spencer previously said the challenge helps him to feel ‘closer’ to his brother Michael, who never returned after becoming the youngest British climber to summit Mount Everest.

To qualify for the Guinness World Record, jr will need to run the full distance – 1,266km – on sand and will not be able to cross roads, grass, rivers or other terrain during the 30 marathons, making the challenge a logistical, as well as physical and mental feat.

A dedicated adjudicator will be present during every marathon and will monitor Spencer’s progress in order for it to register as a successful Guinness World Record.
