The Block viewers were left confused on Wednesday night after the Channel Nine reality TV series aired a controversial cooking challenge.
Host Scott Cam, 61, gave the contestants a break from their building projects and tasked them with a bizarre challenge – to prepare a delicious fish meal for him and co-host Shelley Craft.
Cam kept the Blockheads on their toes by telling them the winning team would score a $120,000 Bar Crusher fishing boat, that they could auction off with their house.
‘This is going to be a blind tasting. We’re gonna have no idea who cooked what. We will come up with the meal we liked the best, and that team will take home the Bar Crusher,’ Scott told them.
The teams then got to work cooking up tasty dishes for the hosts, with Melbourne mates Ricky and Haydn winning with their delectable fish and chips snack.
‘Well done guys, it was delicious,’ Shelley told the best friends as she handed them the keys to their deluxe new boat.
However, the offbeat segment ruffled the feathers of many viewers, who quickly took to social media to slam the show for going off-format.
‘This is my first year ever watching The Block. Why are they cooking? What is this, MasterChef? I’m confused,’ one person sniped.

‘Just tuned in… omg now The Block is like My Kitchen Rules,’ a second user added and a third chipped in: ‘Why am I even watching people fishing and cooking?’
‘Thought this was a reno show, not a cooking contest,’ another upset fan wrote.
As a lifestyle-reality show, The Block often features amusing and unconventional segments, including last year’s shock breakdancing challenge.
It comes after contestant Ricky Recard was forced to hit back at ‘love rat’ claims made by his jilted ex girlfriend Lauren Smith.

The controversial reality star made headlines this week after it was revealed he dumped Lauren on the eve of a dream overseas trip to hook up with married make-up artist Erin Lee, who he met while filming the reality show.
Appearing on Fifi, Fev & Nick on Tuesday, Ricky said that he was shocked Lauren would air the former couple’s dirty laundry in public.
The curious admission came after host Brendan Fevola broached the hot-button topic, and Ricky said being labelled a ‘love rat’ was a ‘bit harsh’.
