From the pocket linings to the lapels, the fabrics to the waistcoat fob, Sir David Beckham’s morning suit mirrored King Charles at his very best as he became a knight of the British empire on Tuesday morning.Â
And wife Victoria has given fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the painstaking design process behind the look, created by her very own fashion house exclusively for the former footballer’s investiture.Â
At Sir David’s behest, the designer worked from old photos of Charles wearing an identical morning suit to create her first ever menswear piece for the Victoria Beckham Atelier range.Â
A medium-weight construction, the three-piece look was crafted with the finest British wool mohair and embellished with a series of Royal flourishes, notably the distinctive lapel chain.Â
The former Manchester United and England legend, 50, rounded off the look with a crisp white shirt, tie and polished black derby shoes.
Victoria, meanwhile, wore a custom version of her brand’s Bela dress – perhaps symbolising the future of her fashion brand: a dual approach with clothing for both men and women.Â

Captioning a photo of herself alongside Sir David, taken at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, she wrote: ‘A day we’ll never forget. David wears the first ever tailored menswear piece from the Victoria Beckham atelier – a bespoke three-piece morning suit in British wool mohair, inspired by the timeless sophistication of British royal style.Â
‘I’m so proud of you. Thankful for this moment and for my incredible team who worked so hard to bring the vision to life.’

Asked about his brief exchange with King Charles following the ceremony, the former footballer said: ‘He was quite impressed with my suit.’
Sir David admitted the tweed loving King had served as a somewhat unlikely inspiration for the suit, an elegant grey wool affair replete with single pleated trousers, tailed jacket and distinctive lapel chain.
‘He’s kind of the most elegantly dressed man that I know, so he inspired quite a few of my looks over the years and he definitely inspired this look,’ he explained.
‘It was something that my wife made me. I looked at old pictures of him when he was quite young in morning suits and I was like, OK, that’s what I want to wear, so I gave it to my wife and she did it.’
His look bore a striking resemblance to the morning suit favoured by Charles during an appearance at an Ascot polo tournament in 1979- right down to the finest details.

Speaking on Tuesday, Sir David admitted he has felt emotional about the impending knighthood since he was recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours earlier this year.Â
‘I’ve been very obviously lucky in my career to have won what I’ve won and done what I’ve done but to receive an honour like this, of a knight, is beyond anything that I ever thought that I would receive.
‘To be honest, a young boy from the east end of London, born in Leytonstone, and here at Windsor Castle, being honoured by His Majesty the King – the most important and the most respected institution in the world – it’s quite a moment.
‘This is without doubt my proudest moment.’
Since launching 17 years ago, Victoria’s designs have been worn by the Princess of Wales, Meghan Markle, Lady Gaga, Kendall Jenner, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Gal Gadot, and Naomi Campbell.
But despite glittering celebrity endorsements, the brand has suffered mixed fortunes over the years, only first making a profit in 2022 after her husband gave her a bailout worth millions.
