A veteran Channel Nine newsreader has publicly issued a heartbreaking appeal following a family tragedy.
Kelly Nestor, who was once the face of South Australian news on platforms such as ABC and Channels 9 and 10, shared a post on Facebook in the hopes of making a media comeback.
‘Dear Universe,’ she began the post, which has received nearly 300 likes.
‘This is me on the day of my 57th birthday, the same age as my own mother was diagnosed with a rapid cancer that saw her dead in 12 months, and only weeks after my only sibling, my beloved younger brother Royce died.
‘So you’ll excuse me for running out of patience waiting for you to do the job for me,’ she wrote.
‘Now I’m just blatantly asking for a job with 891 ABC Adelaide broadcasting on the wireless.’

The media star then pleaded with fans to let ABC Adelaide know she was interested in returning to the airwaves, after years out of the game.
‘I don’t want to wait any longer or keep doing things that don’t bring me joy. Help me #southaustralia. I need you.’
Fans flooded the comments section with support and praise for the former news star.
‘Hope they give you the job, you deserve it and a good life for you and your son,’ one person wrote.
Another penned: ‘891 ABC Adelaide ABC Adelaide Kelly is the girl you need, we want and need to hear this gorgeous human’s voice. Your audience will grow and people will be talking more and more about the girl with the greatest voice for radio.’
‘891 ABC Adelaide ABC Adelaide get this girl back on air,’ another chimed in.
Kelly was an Australian media staple in the early 2000s.
Following stints working on the 10 Newsdesk and at Sky News, she was offered what she considered a ‘unicorn’ job with Channel Nine’s Adelaide News team, where her ratings soared and popularity rocketed.

However, just two years after nabbing the dream role, a then 42-year-old Kelly was replaced by Kate Collins, who remains in the role.
The TV newsreader then returned to Australian air waves in 2023, 15 years after parting ways with Nine.
Kelly filled in for ABC Adelaide’s Sonya Feldhoff for two weeks on the station’s Afternoons talkback show.
She was overwhelmed by Aussies’ positive response to her comeback, recently telling Gold Coast Bulletin that the feedback had been ‘unbelievable’.
‘People were just clamouring,’ she told the publication.
‘The producers were just saying, “we don’t get this normally, the love for you is incredible Kelly.”
‘And I said, “when you’ve got good love in the community for you, people in South Australia don’t forget”.’
