US Rock Band Breaks Up After Onstage Fight and M Lawsuit

The band revealed this week that they would be working on “separate musical and creative endeavors” after a tricky 15 months of accusations and lawsuits.

In a statement posted to Instagram on Wednesday, the band wrote: “We have come together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane’s Addiction will remain the work the four of us created together.

“We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors.”

Elsewhere in their statement, they penned, “We would like to clarify the events surrounding the cancellation of the tour after the show in Boston in September 2024.

“After that show, without notice to Perry, we unilaterally determined it would be best not to continue the tour and made inaccurate statements about Perry’s mental health which we regret.”

The band’s best known line-up consisted of lead vocalist Perry Farrell, bassist Eric Avery, drummer Stephen Perkins and guitarist Dave Navarro.

As well as the band’s joint statement, Perry also shared a separate statement this week to address what happened on stage.

“To everyone in Boston, and around the world,” his statement began.

Perry continued, “I’d like to address what happened on stage last year. I’ve reflected on it and know I didn’t handle myself the way I should. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for distrusting the show.

“Jane’s Addiction has been at the center of my life for decades.

“The band, the songs, the patrons and the impact that we’ve had on music and culture mean more to me than any words I could ever possibly write down.”

Perry went on, “My aim has always been to give our audience the best possible show, something real, honest and positive.

“In Boston, we fell short of that, and I’m truly sorry to everyone who was impacted.”

Signing off, he concluded, “From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you for your continued love and support.”

The veteran Californian group’s altercation on stage last fall in Boston saw Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro come to blows.

In shock scenes, Farrell had squared up to Navarro and screamed at him while crew ran to break up the barney.

The incident ultimately led to an eyewateringly large $10m lawsuit.

Fans have since reacted on social media.

One person on X said, “It’s officially a wrap for Jane’s Addiction.”

“Such a bummer! Such a great band,” added a second.

“I’m soooooo bummed. Best shows ever,” penned a third.

A fourth then wrote, “So sad.”

While a fifth said, “Respectful parting.”

And a sixth simply penned a broken heart emoji.
