The next instalment in the controversial Terrifier horror franchise has already been rejected by Hollywood studios due to its extreme violence.
Terrifier 3, which is due for release next year, has an opening scene that’s so violent that mainstream movie studios have refused to fund it.
The last film in the franchise, Terrifier 2, became a surprise box office smash last year, grossing over $15million off a paltry $250,000 budget, which made director Damien Leone a hot property in Hollywood.
However, despite courting attention from major movie studios, Leone told JoBlo this week that he’s making Terrifier 3 independently because mainstream studios have baulked at the film’s horrific violence.
‘I got to meet with studios, like legit Hollywood studios, who wanted to make Terrifier 3,’ he explained.

‘But before I even had a script, just based on the success of part 2, and just having meetings and getting the feel that I was going to have eyes over my shoulders, and they were concerned about the levels of gore and this and that,’ he continued.
‘I knew, and not having seen my script or have any idea what I had in mind, I knew they weren’t going to let me make this movie based on the first five pages. Like that’s how insane Terrifier 3 is.’
Leone went on to say that the opening scene is so horrific that a movie studio would ‘never’ let him film it.
‘So mark my words, I guarantee you the first 5 minutes of this movie is going to be very controversial. But that’s not even the big kill scene. So like that’s why I was like, I need to just make this movie on my own, because it’s just too… it’s too insane.’

The Terrifier franchise is known for its sadistic kill scenes and extreme violence which are perpetrated by the antagonist, a murderous demonic clown named Art.
The first film featured a horrific murder involving a woman and a hacksaw, while the sequel depicted a mutilation that was so extreme filmgoers vomited in theatres.
Making the franchise even more grotesque is its use of practical effects, which look more realistic than CGI.

The promo for the gruesome slasher reveals that the third instalment in the popular franchise will be a Christmas movie.
In the stomach-churning image, a blood-soaked Art the Clown looks deranged while wielding an axe in front of a Christmas tree.
The tree appears to have been decorated with various entrails and human flesh, while Art’s name is smeared on the wall in blood.
Director Damien Leone has already promised that it will be even more extreme than the last film.
‘Terrifier 3 will be another boundary-pushing addition to the horror genre, continuing the no holds barred, uncompromising exploits fans of the franchise have come to expect and celebrate,’ he told Bloody Disgusting in May.
‘If you thought Art the Clown’s reign of terror in part 2 was extreme, you haven’t seen anything yet.’

The first Terrifier follows a maniacal mime artist named Art the Clown who terrorises three women on Halloween.
In the sequel, he returns after being resurrected by a sinister supernatural entity to wreak more havoc, this time targeting a teenage girl and her younger brother.
Despite its low budget, Terrifier 2 ended up becoming a box office hit after going viral when multiple theatregoers became physically ill and puked during screenings due to the violence.
