Sources reveal that Pattinson will be playing the villainous character by the name of Scytale.
Scytale’s first appearance in Frank Herbert’s Dune novels was in 1969’s Dune Messiah, the second novel which this film is expected to be based on.
The novel is set 12 years after the events of the first novel – which both the first two movies were based on, splitting the book in half with two epic movies.
Scytale arrives in the third book, as Chalamet’s Paul Atreides continues to rule as Emperor alongside Princess Irulan while keeping a secret relationship with Chani.
Scytale challenges the rule of Atreides and threatens his rule over his fiefdom that was established in the first two movies.
The character was not featured in the first two movies, but he was previously played by Martin McDougall in the 2003 miniseries Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune.
Villeneuve will return to direct from a script he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts, based on Herbert’s book.
Production is eyed to start sometime this summer, with Legendary and Warner Bros. setting a December 18, 2026 release date.
