Actress Trina McGee has revealed how she overhauled her entire body for years in a bid to better improve her fertility before falling pregnant at 54 – and she has plans to expand her brood further by adopting.

The former Boy Meets World star shocked fans earlier this month when she announced that she is expecting her fourth child, her first with husband Marcello Thedford, having conceived naturally despite being one year into the menopause.

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, Trina shared her belief that adopting a healthy lifestyle, which includes drinking a pineapple elixir, brought about her ‘miracle’ baby, as she claims it helped to improve blood flow to her uterus.

She also dismissed hurtful speculation that her baby news is a publicity stunt to garner media attention.

‘I did things to clean out my body and I’ve always been extra healthy,’ Trina said.

‘In the last eight years, we got more concentrated on cleaning out our systems and saying, “Hey, if this is something that is possible, would you still want it?”

‘We came down here to Belize and we lived an even cleaner life, and we got some help from [Marcello’s] family as far as some herbal remedies, and then that did the trick.’

Trina, who played Angela Moore in the hit show Boy Meets World between 1997 and 2000, insisted she is not claiming to be ‘any kind of guru’ or a medical doctor, but simply wants to share her own experience.

‘I boiled a lot of pineapple skin and cinnamon, and I was drinking that constantly,’ she said. ‘I would say I did that for about eight months straight.

‘It’s not crazy or mystical or anything, but you have to keep blood flowing to the uterus and some things help that more than others.

‘Find out even for yourself what roots or herbs might work for you that get your blood flowing and consult with a doctor.’

She continued: ‘I have worked with roots and herbs for a really long time and have been drinking teas and tonics… I’ve been keeping my blood and body clean for over 20 years.’

Pineapple and cinnamon have many health benefits and they both contain anti-inflammatory properties, while cinnamon has been linked to lower blood pressure and the regulation of blood glucose.

Trina, who also avoids white flour, white rice, sugar and processed foods, is currently living with her husband in Belize, and credits the country with improving her quality of life.

‘When I came down here, I eliminated a lot of stress,’ she said. ‘And I did go into a lot of prayer, that’s my personal thing.

‘Alleviating stress and really identifying what was making me stressed was extremely important. I stopped taking so much in my day-to-day life that I felt I needed to take to get ahead.’

Trina, who has been married to Marcello for 16 years, also revealed that he has improved his health over the course of their relationship.

‘Since I’ve been with my husband, he hasn’t been in the hospital for over 12 years for his DVTs (deep vein thrombosis) and his blood clots – and he used to be in the hospital all the time.

‘He’s still working with losing weight and still working to get to his optimum health. But there are things that you can do if you just start looking to nature, I believe.’

Trina  announced at the beginning of June that she was pregnant ‘at the tender age of 54’

Trina already has children Ramia, 31, Langston, 29, and Ezra, 25, with her ex-husband Courtland Davis, and despite falling pregnant with her fourth in her fifties she has no plans to stop there.

‘We want to have a big family, so yes, the idea of adoption along with a pregnancy is a great idea we are now exploring,’ she said.

‘We were hoping to have maybe two or three kids at the end of the day if that could work, but whatever we’re allowed to have we will be appreciative of. We just want healthy children.’

Trina announced her pregnancy news on Instagram earlier this month, telling fans: ‘At the tender age of 54 I have found myself pregnant.

‘Please bless us with your prayers for a safe delivery. Thank you.’

The news sparked a huge online reaction, with some, including her former Boy Meets World costar Maitland Ward questioning if the announcement was a publicity stunt.

Speaking to TMZ, the actress, who played Rachel McGuire on the show, said: ‘My first thought and I hate to say it, was, was this April Fool’s day. I hope that it’s not a publicity stunt or anything, I hope not.

‘I have not seen any verification or information… I would hope as it goes along she would show us her journey, because that’s a big deal that would help a lot of women, it would be super inspirational.’

Trina told DailyMail.com that she was hurt by Maitland’s speculation.

‘Let’s just say, you know, she knows me better than that,’ she said.

‘I felt bad that that she would say that, and… whatever, you know, I’m just living my life. And you know, this is this is my experience. And that’s it. Really.’

While Trina is at an age when the menopause typically starts, she is gearing up to welcome her new bundle of joy.

Menopause is when a woman’s periods stop because of a drop in hormone levels, which usually happens around the age of 45 to 55, although it can happen when you’re younger.

There are many symptoms, but the most common include anxiety, mood swings, brain fog, hot flushes, and irregular periods.

They can start years before a woman’s periods end and carry on years afterwards, having a huge impact on sufferers’ lives.

Besides growing their family, Trina and Marc are launching Quawe Farms and Retreat in Belize, as well as an online shop on July 4.
