Since appearing on Friday Night Dinner, Tom has also starred in the ITV2 sitcom Plebs, which aired from 2013 to 2022.
Friday Night Dinner aired on Channel 4 from 2011 to 2020, and concluded with Tom’s character Jonny and his brother Adam learning they were set to become parents for the first time.
The BAFTA-nominated show ran for six series and also starred Simon Bird, Tamsin Greig, and Paul Ritter as middle-class Jewish family, The Goodmans.Â
Series six came to an end with main characters Adam (Simon Bird) and Jonny (Tom Rosenthal) discovering their girlfriends, who were portrayed by Rebecca Humphries and Pearl Mackie respectively, were both pregnant, much to the lads’ surprise.
While creator Robert Popper had previously said he had no plans to end the show, following the death of star Paul Ritter in 2021, he stated he did not want to continue the series without him.
Channel 4 broadcast a 90-minute special marking the show’s 10th Anniversary in 2021, and it was dedicated to star Paul, who died just seven weeks before it aired.
Co-star Tamsin revealed she urged Paul not to take part in the show’s 10th Anniversary Special because of his poor health.
Tamsin explained at the time: ‘Sadly at the time of making the documentary, Paul was pretty unwell and to be honest – and don’t tell the producers this – but I did try and persuade him not to do the interview.

‘But it is testament to Paul’s courage and generosity and dignity and complete lack of vanity that he wanted to participate in the documentary, to do an interview, and to really celebrate this little world that he’s been a part of and that he’s enjoyed so much over the years.’
She added that Paul would want viewers to ‘sit back and laugh’ at the show, as she added: ‘We all miss him terribly, an incredible actor, a true friend and a lovely human being.’
After Paul’s death, Simon paid tribute to his late co-star and shared a touching message via his onscreen sibling Tom’s Twitter, writing that he will ‘always aspire to be like’ Paul and went on to heap praise on him.Â
Earlier this year, Tom joined stars including Spencer Matthews, Christine McGuinness and Michaela Strachan in the BBC series Pilgrimage: The Road Through North Wales.
