I’m A Celebrity’s Tom Read Wilson’s parents have refuted his claims that they met while his father was a teacher at his mother’s school when she was 18 years old.
The Celebs Go Dating star previously shared a surprising tale about how his parents met during an episode of 8 Out Of 10 Cats.
Tom, 39, who is currently appearing on the ITV show, claimed his father Crispin met his mother, Juliette, when he was around the age of 34, while she was a pupil at the school he taught at.
However, long after the show aired, his parents have now clarified the real story and claimed Tom was ‘factually incorrect.
They explained that the star’s mother was never a pupil at Bradfield College where his father taught.
In actual fact according to them, Juliette, was never educated there but did grow up on the school campus and did not meet Crispin until she had turned 20.
Clarifying the correct version of events, Crispin said: ‘I taught English for some years at Bradfield College. Tom’s grandfather taught French there. Tom never went to school there but grew up in a house on the campus.Â

‘His mother, Juliette, never went to school there but grew up in a (different) house on the campus. Some time after Juliette left school when she was 20 and at college she started a relationship with me.Â
‘In May 1986 we married and in November 1986 Tom was born.’
The confusion began when an old episode of the panel show was brought to light, where Tom originally shared the story.
Speaking on 8 Out Of 10 Cats back in 2024, Tom explained: ‘My father was an English teacher and that’s how I happened.Â
‘My maternal grandfather taught at the same school and sometimes the eldest girls of the faculty would date the youngest teachers.’
Shocked Rob Beckett interjected: ‘So your dad was a teacher there and your mum was a child there?’
‘Well she was 18, coming of age. He was 16 years her senior,’ reasoned Tom.Â
Host Jimmy Carr then clarified: ‘He was 34 and she was 18.’
Nodding his head Tom agreed as he added: ‘Yes. I never really thought about it.’
His father added that Tom will also correct the narrative once he leaves the show following a successful run in the jungle.Â
His parents have since separated and his dad went on to remarry.
Tom previously revealed, ‘I’m very close to my parents, but sadly they are now separated and my dad has remarried. My mum is a French teacher and a wonderful, zesty, rather naughty character.’
When questioned by Aitch over where he gets his ‘lingo’ from, the well-spoken star attested his language to his ‘wonderful dad’.Â
He explained: ‘He was an English teacher and he made it into stories all the time…. I’m not a poet at all but I love the lyricism of it all.’
Earlier this week, Tom’s mum commented on his distinctive voice as she arrived at the airport in Australia on Tuesday.Â
She told the Daily Mail: ‘He’s very articulate. He was born with a dictionary in his mouth.Â
‘His father was an English teacher so that’s where he gets it from. He doesn’t get it from me unfortunately.Â

‘He’s always been like that which is great. Sometimes I don’t understand what he says, but yeah it is good.’Â
During Monday night’s episode fans were left in absolute shock as Tom debuted a totally different voice.
As Lisa Riley asked Tom about his dating life, Tom explained how there wasn’t much to tell, noting he can ‘find’ men but not ‘keep them’.
This prompted Jack Osbourne, 40, to quip: ‘Wait, Tom, you’re gay?’
Joking that he’s a ‘beacon of butch’, Tom proceeded to showcase his ‘masculine side’ by pretending to flirt with Kelly Brook.
Kelly Brook asked what his ‘type’ in women would be, as he responded, in a husky voice, that the model ‘fit the bill’.
He added: ‘You fit the bill, you totally fit the fill babe’, much to the other campmates’ amazement.
Speaking later in the Bush Telegraph, Tom kept the acting going as he said: ‘You know what, that Tom character with all the fancy language, it is so exhausting. Much nicer to hang in here.’

Then, dropping the husky tone, Tom reverted back to his familiar voice and remarked: ‘Oh God, what’s wrong with me?’
Taking to social media, viewers shared their surprise over these scenes, as one wrote: ‘Tom’s manly voice is so good he’s got the nation confused on which one’s real.’
A second added: ‘It’s hard to tell which voice is the real Tom.’ A third shared: ‘Wait so Tom puts that high pitch voice on.’
Yet another fan noted how they couldn’t ‘tell if that’s Tom’s real voice or an accent’.
Celebs Go Dating colleague Anna Williamson has previously confirmed the truth about his voice.
She joked: ‘It’s probably the most common question everybody says, “Does he really talk like that?” I can now clarify, absolutely, Tom Read Wilson speaks like that. He’s a trained actor but that is not an act.’
