Bad news for the millions of female fans who swoon over - as I am saddened to reveal that the rugged heartthrob is set to take a major career break.

Sources tell me that the tough-guy actor 'is to take a sabbatical' that could last several years now he has finished filming the second series of his hit Paramount+ drama MobLand.

His decision is said to be 'so he can have a rest' but last year he revealed that in middle age he is 'falling to bits' from the demands of his physical roles.

The 48-year-old has starred in action-packed movies such as Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, and the Venom franchise. He also played a key role in the 's crime drama .

Tom said: 'I've had two knee surgeries now, my disc's herniated in my back, I've got sciatica as well... It's all falling to bits now, and it's not going to get better.'

However some suggest that his decision to step away from work is so that he can spend more time with his family. He is married to actress , 44, whom he first met on the set of Wuthering Heights in 2009, and they have two children together, aged ten and seven. He also has a 17-year-old son with ex-girlfriend Rachael Speed.

Tom Hardy as Harry Da Souza in MobLand. Sources tell me that the tough-guy actor 'is to take a sabbatical' that could last several years now he has finished filming the second series of the hit Paramount+ crime drama

Earlier this month the couple were photographed enjoying a rare beach holiday together in Barbados.

Filming had just wrapped on the second series of MobLand, in which Tom stars as Harry Da Souza, a fixer for powerful London crime family the Harrigans, led by Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and Maeve (Helen Mirren).

No release date has yet been announced - but the season is much anticipated after series one became one of Paramount +'s biggest hits of last year. And even more so, now it may be the last we see of Tom on screen for quite some time...

Gemma and a spy ring

Actress Gemma Arterton  at the Design Museum in London. Gemma - who wed Irish actor Rory Keenan in 2019 - had forgotten her wedding ring. But what looked like her engagement ring was on her pinky finger

Gemma Arterton gave birth to her second child just a few months ago, but still managed to look a million dollars at the launch of her ITV drama Secret Service last week.

But it didn't take a spy to spot that the actress - who wed Irish actor Rory Keenan in 2019 - had forgotten her wedding ring. But what looked like her engagement ring was on her pinky finger.

I do hope comedian Alan Carr hasn't jumped the gun by offering up his new abode - the 17-bedroom Ayton Castle in the Scottish Borders - as a wedding venue.

The Celebrity Traitors winner has signed a deal with Disney+ to chart his renovation of the castle. But there has been no change of ownership lodged with the Scottish Land Registry since it was last sold in July 2014 for £2.4millon. What a mystery…

Alice's eye therapy

Family life for Lady Alice Manners is so 'horrible' that she turned to a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.

She reveals that when talking therapy 'wasn't getting to the core' of her issues, she took up eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing too. Her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Rutland, split in 2012 but both still live in Belvoir Castle.

Spanx a lot

'Lingerie by good ol' Spanx,' announces original supermodel Paulina Porizkova, now 61, as she pulls on the stomach-sucking undies to aid her svelte figure.

The Czech, who found fame alongside Naomi Campbell, is an advocate of ageing naturally and says: 'The one thing that's really frustrated me is all these celebrities claiming their youthful looks are all about water and yoga... many of those have only chosen less obvious [cosmetic surgery] interventions.'

Such refreshing honesty!

The legal row between Pippa Middleton and ramblers barred from walking through the grounds of her Berkshire mansion is more fraught than I first imagined.

The Princess of Wales's sister and her hedge fund tycoon husband James Matthews are gathering an army of 40 witnesses for a public inquiry, which I hear could drag on for three days next month. Such disputes are normally dealt with in hours.

Opposing them, West Berkshire Ramblers have evidence that the path in Barton Court has been in use for 20 years.
