Today host Sarah Abo reveals the REAL reason why we never see her mysterious husband Cyrus Moran: ‘It’s not as though he’s hiding’

Sarah Abo has revealed the very surprising reason her mysterious husband, Cyrus Moran, prefers to stay out of the spotlight.

The Today star, 40, who co-hosts the Channel Nine breakfast show with Karl Stefanovic, tells this week’s Stellar magazine that her husband likes to keep a low profile.

‘It’s not as though he’s hiding. It’s just that he’s not in the media,’ Sarah told the Something To Talk About podcast.

Sarah said people are always surprised that her husband of 13 years does not want to pursue a media career.

‘For some reason that seems to be hard to understand for some people. It’s like, “No, mate. I’ve got a weird job and a weird life… he doesn’t,”‘ she said.

The couple’s commitment to privacy has led to some awkward situations, such as when he declined to appear on a special edition of the Today show to mark her 40th birthday.

‘Today wanted to get my family in Melbourne up via video link, but they were like, “Oh, Cyrus, can you just come on set and just wish Sarah a happy birthday,”‘ she said.

‘And he was like, “Absolutely not.” He said to me, “Are you gonna kill me if I don’t come on the telly? I’m really sorry. Do you mind if I don’t do it?”

Sarah revealed that one of the key strengths of their relationship was their mutual support – and she told her husband she would be happy with whatever decision he made.

‘He said, “I will if you really want me to, but I really don’t want to.” I was like, “I don’t want you to do anything you’re not comfortable with.” It’s just not who he is,’ she said.

The Syrian-born presenter has been married to Cyrus since 2012.

Cyrus works as a trader at a Victorian steel mill and helps facilitate trade between Australian and international companies.

Both are graduates of Monash University, with Cyrus completing his Bachelor of Arts History degree in 2004, the same year Sarah began studying journalism there.

While Sarah usually keeps tight-lipped about her relationship status, she does occasionally post sweet photos of her and Cyrus on social media.

One Instagram snap from May 2023 shows the lovebirds celebrating Cyrus’ 40th birthday as Sarah lovingly embraces him at a party.

Sarah captioned the photo with some heartfelt words: ‘Happy birthday. Beautiful, blurry, you. #fortyandfine.’

Channel Nine announced in November 2022 that Sarah, a former 60 Minutes reporter, would be replacing Allison Langdon on the Today show alongside Karl Stefanovic.

‘I am thrilled to be joining the wonderful and hard-working team at Today, who manage to inform the nation every morning while also having a lot of fun,’ Sarah said in a press release.
