But while many guests wowed with their looks, several missed the mark and suffered fashion fails.
Senator Jacqui Lambie, who stole the show last year, caused quite a stir when she arrived in a bedazzled blue feathered gown.
She had her hair slicked up in a top knot and accessorised with a big chunky necklace and blue clutch.
Unfortunately, the bright blue hue did not flatter her skin tone and the fluffy hem was an unnecessary addition.
Minister for Youth of Australia Anne Aly also caught the eye for all the wrong reasons in a knitted flowery dress.
The bold frock, which featured a colourful floral sash, was accessorised with a matching knitted black bag and shiny heels.
Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth missed the mark in a tie-dye dress which swamped her figure.

The Greens politician’s short underlay and nude coloured corsetry was exposed with the bright lights of the camera flashes.

She completed her look with red hoop earrings and wore shiny gold shoes as she posed alongside actress Rachel Griffiths.
Never one to shy away from controversy, Lidia Thorpe arrived in a pro-Palestine dress with the divisive phrase ‘from the river to the sea’ embroidered down the front.
Her white frock also had a blood-stained look at the bottom and her bag said ‘Love Harder’.

Meanwhile, Minster for Industry and Science Ed Husic’s fiancée Fiona Scott chose a long red strapless gown which featured bizarre detailing on the very daring slit.
She risked a major wardrobe malfunction when she put her best foot forward on the carpet in the fire-engine red frock.
