The year 2025 has certainly been filled with a host of very unexpected romantic relationships.

Shock pairings have emerged into the spotlight out of nowhere including between Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa, Billy Ray Cyrus and Elizabeth Hurley and Katy Perry and former prime minister of Canada Justin Trudeau.

JoJo, 22, and Chris, 32, sent shockwaves through the Showbiz world when their close bond formed on Celebrity Big Brother back in April.

They are still going strong all these months later and have even hinted at marriage in the future.

In addition Hollywood siren Sydney Sweeney raised eyebrows this autumn when she began dating controversial music mogul Scooter Braun.

While just this month Ellie Goulding, 38, revealed she was expecting a baby with her toyboy lover Beau Minniear, 28, – whose criminal record has since been revealed. 

So which shock couples have popped up in 2025?

JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes 

Eight months on from starting their relationship, JoJo and Chris recently reflected on their whirlwind romance. 

The former Love Island star and dancer met in the Celebrity Big Brother house back in April, and in the days after the series ended, they started dating. 

Their chemistry became a talking point on the show as JoJo was in a relationship with her now ex Kath Ebbs at the time. 

When Chris and JoJo then made their relationship public, it caused a stir on social media, with Big Brother viewers questioning if it was just a showmance to boost their profiles. 

But the pair have vehemently denied the accusations and insist their love is real in a new interview. 

‘I think anyone who meets someone on television, I don’t think it matters who it would be, there would be some people who would doubt it. I don’t think you can read into that too much,’ JoJo told The Sun.

Chris added: ‘We’re just bobbing and weaving and ducking and diving, kicking along.’

The television personality isn’t afraid of fast-paced relationships. He rose to fame on ITV2 dating show Love Island back in 2017, where he had a rollercoaster romance with Olivia Attwood, 34. 

His romance with JoJo has moved just as fast, with the couple dividing time between their homes in the US and the UK.

Talking about the foundations of their love story, Chris insisted while they didn’t spend a long time dating, he really got to know the ‘ins and outs’ of JoJo in the three weeks they spent in the Big Brother house. 

He said: ‘We spent three weeks with each other. I know we weren’t together then but it’s been a long time.’ 

Elsewhere in the interview, JoJo revealed a dealbreaker for them in making their relationship work is only accepting job offers which don’t put their romance in jeopardy. 

She added: ‘Something important to both of us, is that nothing comes between us, is that nothing makes anything stressful or feels that we have to do something.’ 

Their gushing interview came after JoJo’s ex Kath Ebbs announced she is engaged to new love Tilly Lucas-Rodd. 

Kath was left heartbroken in August when the Dance Moms star appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK, during which she formed a flirtatious bond with Chris. 

At the CBB after-party, it was revealed that JoJo dumped Kath – leaving the latter ‘disorientated, numb and in shock’ – before the star started her romance with Chris.

They have now found love with Tilly, with the pair announcing their engagement after going public with their romance in July.

Billy Ray Cyrus and Elizabeth Hurley

Elizabeth shocked fans in April when she announced her relationship with Achy Breaky singer Billy Ray.

She posted a snap of them both on Easter Sunday as she leaned in for a kiss and couldn’t keep a smile off her face.

Back in May, Elizabeth and Billy made their red carpet debut in Rome while attending the Orizzonti | Rosso Exhibition Opening Dinner together – with her son Damian also joining the couple.

The same month, The Royals actress made an appearance at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation 2025 Hot Pink Party in New York City – and gave an update about their relationship during an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com.

She gushed that she is ‘very happy in my new relationship’ and added, ‘Billy’s a lovely man and we make each other very happy.’

The pair’s relationship began following his divorce from Firerose – and his third marriage.

He had met Elizabeth on set of the 2022 movie Christmas In Paradise and as he was navigating through the split from Firerose, he received a message from the actress.

Elizabeth’s son Damian recently rushed to the defence of Billy Ray, branding him the ‘sweetest man’ as he hit back at ‘untrue stories’. 

‘I’ve been in the public eyes since the day I was born and rarely comment on anything written about me or my family,’ Damian penned, before slamming recent ‘untrue’ stories.

‘For the record: I adore @billyraycyrus and think he’s one of the sweetest men I’ve ever met. I love seeing my mom so happy.’

He added that Billy’s kids are ‘adorable’ while also expressing that the families ‘get along beautifully.’

Damian – who is the son of Elizabeth and biological dad Steve Bing – continued to explain that he is part of a ‘modern family,’ including his former stepfather Arun Nayar. 

Arun was previously married to the Gossip Girl alum from 2007 until their divorce was finalized in 2011. 

After giving a shoutout to his step siblings, the media personality added, ‘I feel blessed every day to be surrounded by so much love and support. I’m grateful for the truth we live, despite the stories others try to write for us.’ 

Billy was seemingly moved by Damian’s kind words reposted the message to his own Instagram stories and wrote, ‘Love you D Man.’ 

However, this is not the first time that the model publicly showed his support for his mother’s romance with the actor. 

When the pair first debuted their relationship over Easter weekend, he jumped to the comment section to share a black heart emoji. 

Also in April, sources told The Sun: ‘Damian has met Billy and is a really big fan of his. They hit it off when they hung out on set. 

‘All he wants is for his mum to be happy and he saw their spark straight away and is delighted they are now giving it a go.’

Elizabeth revealed her plans to celebrate Christmas in the U.K. with Billy during LYMA’s Power Women series. 

She reflected on how she had been content being single but when she met the singer, the actress ‘felt incredibly comfortable and natural and easy from the first second.’

The star also explained, ‘I always spend Christmas in the countryside in Herefordshire, where I live. Me and my siblings, everyone always comes to me.

‘There are a lot of people there, we eat a lot. We do the typical English thing of eating quality streets, watching TV and going out with the dogs.

‘So all I want for Christmas this year is that Billy, my new boyfriend, enjoys his first English Christmas.’

She added, ‘He spent the whole summer with us, but I really do hope that he integrates with us, loves it, enjoys it and doesn’t laugh at us for eating so many quality streets and lying on the sofa.

‘All I want is peace, happiness and being relaxed, having a laugh with friends and family.’

Last month while talking to The Sunday Times, Elizabeth shared that Billy is a big fan of England. 

‘He lives 40 minutes outside of Nashville. It’s so beautiful. Funnily enough, it actually looks a lot like England. Probably the equivalent of Surrey.’ 

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau

Katy Perry’s new romance with Justin Trudeau sent shockwaves through the Showbiz world when it was revealed earlier this year. 

The Roar songstress finally went Instagram official with her boyfriend recently after months of fevered public speculation on their relationship.

The former Canadian Prime Minister, 53, reposted a photo of him and the pop star posing with former Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yuko Kishida on December 4. 

Their meeting took place earlier this month, with Trudeau and Perry already in Japan for her Lifetimes Tour show, though Perry quickly faced backlash for the ‘inappropriate’ mini skirt she wore to what fans viewed as a diplomatic-style meeting.

However she has now brushed off the blowback and zeroed in her focus on the romantic aspect of her latest trip to Japan.

She soon after shared a selfie of her and Trudeau cuddling up to one another as they strolled through a park together amid the changing autumn colors.

The photo was part of an album that also featured a black and white video of Perry trying uni for the first time as Trudeau looked proudly on beside her.

Meanwhile Trudeau similarly shrugged off the backlash to his and Perry’s photo with the Kishidas, re-sharing the image from Kishida’s X account, writing: ‘Great to see you @kishida230. Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko.’

‘Thank you, Fumio, for your friendship and your continued commitment to both the international rules-based order and to a better future for everyone.’

Their trip marked the latest international outing for the duo, who first sparked dating rumors in July following Perry’s split from ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom, 48.

After weeks of speculation, they made their official debut as a couple in September in Paris, stepping out hand-in-hand during a romantic evening in the French capital.

A source previously told People that Perry and Trudeau have been ‘making plans for the holidays’ and that the pop star is navigating a whirlwind schedule as she prepares to wrap up her Lifetimes Tour.

‘Without exaggeration, this year has been a whirlwind for her. She hasn’t even had time to really think about her life after the tour,’ the insider shared.

Though her romance with Trudeau has been an exciting new chapter, the source emphasized that Perry remains focused on her five-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, whom she shares with Bloom.

‘She’s a single mom now and a lot of that is going to come into focus next year,’ they added.

The insider also revealed that Perry is ‘excited’ by Trudeau, noting she is ‘having a lot of fun’ despite being surprised by how quickly she connected with someone new after the end of her long-term relationship with Bloom.

‘Justin keeps making a big effort to see her and she’s excited about it. [She has] a lot of fun with him. It’s exactly what she needs right now,’ the source said.

On Trudeau’s side, the relationship appears to have brought a new sense of ease.

‘He is a much happier person now. Stresses are greatly diminished. And he is intrigued with Katy. They have fun together, laugh a lot, talk about everything,’ the source added.

Trudeau and his ex-wife Sophie Grégoire split in 2023; they are parents to sons Xavier, 18, and Hadrien, 11, as well as daughter Ella-Grace Margaret, 16. 

Scooter Braun and Sydney Sweeney 

The 28-year-old Christy actress and the music executive, 44, began dating earlier this year.

Insiders recently told The Daily Mail that the pair’s romance has escalated quickly behind the scenes.

‘They talk every day and see each other often, it is hot and heavy,’ a source shared. ‘I don’t want to say the L word, but it feels like the L word.’

The source added that Braun has become a grounding presence amid Sweeney’s skyrocketing fame, describing him as an ‘old soul’ who offers guidance as her career continues to explode.

The duo were first linked over the summer after crossing paths at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s lavish wedding, months after Sweeney ended her engagement to longtime fiancé Jonathan Davino. 

While early reports suggested the two were ‘casually dating,’ their increasingly public appearances suggest the connection may be more serious than initially believed.

A source told Entertainment Tonight that both Sweeney and Braun are keeping their relationship ‘low-key.’ 

‘They were both overwhelmed by the backlash they received from news of them dating coming out. They thought the hate was blown out of proportion,’ the insider said.

In September, the couple were seen holding hands as they had a blast during Horror Nights at Universal Studios in Hollywood.

‘The attraction is she is hot as can be,’ an insider told the Daily Mail. ‘He gives great advice. They have what each other wants.’

Since going public with their romance, Sweeney and Braun have been spotted enjoying dates together across the country.

Earlier this month, the two stars held hands during an excursion in New York City – shortly after her ‘screaming’ fight with ex-fiancé Jonathan.

Sweeney raised eyebrows after she was seen quietly slipping into a car with her ex-fiancé in Los Angeles. 

Photographs captured the two-time Emmy nominee ducking down in the passenger seat with Davino behind the wheel.

But their apparent amiability seemed short-lived. TMZ reported that, at one point, the star screamed: ‘I don’t believe you. Please leave, leave me alone.’

The former couple called off their engagement, earlier this year, after about seven years together. 

Ellie Goulding and Beau Minniear 

Actor Beau, 28, and Ellie confirmed they were dating earlier this year, as their unlikely romance was revealed. 

Recently the singer, 38, revealed she was pregnant as she showed off her baby bump at the Fashion Awards in London.

Soon after, The Daily Mail then exclusively revealed that in 2018, aged 20, Beau was arrested in Palm Beach, Florida, where he was living at the time. 

The incident led to him being charged with three offences: robbery without a firearm, felony battery resulting in a serious bodily injury, and marijuana possession.

According to documents filed by the West Palm Beach Police Department, Beau and two other young men were taken into custody after an altercation on a street at around 2.30am.

A 36-year-old man claimed to have been kicked and punched multiple times by a group of attackers, while lying on the ground, leaving him with a fractured elbow and bleeding nose.

According to the police records, he claimed that they also ripped off his trousers and stole his wallet, which was found in the possession of one of the men Beau was with when they were arrested.

According to address details filed with the police, the victim – who also has a criminal record – was homeless at the time.

In a mugshot taken after his arrest, Beau, dressed in a blue-and-purple plaid shirt, looks downcast and remorseful, his hair hanging greasily over his forehead. He was the only one in the group charged with a drugs offence, having been found with seven grams of marijuana in his pockets.

Having served two days behind bars at the County Jail, Beau admitted misdemeanour battery, a lesser offence than felony battery, as part of an apparent plea deal.

Appearing in front of a jury in November 2018, he was granted probation and ordered to pay $675 (£500) in costs.

He also had to complete a 12-hour online anger management course, and was ordered to do 75 hours of community service at a minimum of ten hours per month over the following year.

This wasn’t, however, Beau’s last brush with the law.

In 2020, during the Black Lives Matter riots in Los Angeles – two days of unrest sparked by the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota – he was arrested again.

Along with 4,000 others, the then 23-year-old was taken into custody for breaching the 8pm curfew that had been imposed on the city to quell the violence. No further action appears to have been taken, and he was apparently released without charge.

Given that Ellie is expecting his first child, one must presume that Beau has told her about his chequered past.

The singer split from her husband Caspar Jopling, with whom she shares a four-year-old son, Arthur, in February last year. Since her relationship with Beau went public in September, the pair have holidayed together in Italy, where Beau shared online an intimate photograph of Ellie lying in an unmade hotel room bed.

He also appears in several raunchy scenes in Ellie’s latest music video, Destiny.

In one, the pair passionately kiss while wearing veils over their heads; in another Ellie takes pictures of Beau’s semi-naked body before straddling him. She playfully captioned a behind-the-scenes clip on her TikTok profile: ‘Bring your bf [boyfriend] to work day,’ adding: ‘He upstaged me tbh [to be honest].’

It marks quite the change for the British songstress, who just six years ago married Eton-educated art dealer Caspar in a fairytale ceremony at York Minster.

In attendance were Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, long-term friends of Ellie – who is also close to Prince William and Prince Harry, with whom she was once romantically linked.

Ellie broke her silence on her pregnancy and gushed that she felt ’empowered and my absolute best’ on Wednesday after her surprise bump reveal. 

She showed off her growing bump in an outfit from designer Willy Chavarria and announced her happy news.

In her first Instagram post since the reveal, she shared a series of photos from the night. 

The hitmaker wrote: ‘So grateful to have attended the Fashion Awards with the visionary Willy Chavarria, wearing a look that was a little bit custom, a little bit archive. 

‘Only on a night like this, could Willy be the one to empower me and make me feel my absolute bestttt.’

Ellie added: ‘Thank you for a night filled with meaning, beauty, and so much heart x.’ 

Shailene Woodley and Lucas Bravo 

Shailene and Lucas seemed an unlikely pairing when it was revealed that they’d started dating earlier this year.

The Emily In Paris hunk, 37, and the actress, 34, was first spotted together in Paris this past March.

At the time, they were spotted canoodling on the France set of Lucas’ show Emily in Paris. 

That same month a source told People that their romance was ‘a breath of fresh air for her.’

The person also described Lucas as ‘uncomplicated, kind, not pretentious and emotionally present.’

‘Her friends love him,’ the insider emphasized, noting that the Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox star was ‘thriving.’

‘It’s a whole new vibe,’ the source shared, later comparing Shailene’s new love to her former flame Aaron Rodgers.

‘It’s the total opposite of her dynamic with Aaron. She’s happy, light and having fun again,’ the person close to the situation said. 

The Tell Me Lies actress and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback were romantically involved from 2020 to 2022.

They eventually broke off their engagement, leaving Shailene ‘heartbroken.’

In a subsequent interview with Bustle in 2024, she cryptically said, ‘I fell in love over and over with unavailability.’

However in September it was reported that Shailene and Lucas had split after their six-month relationship.

They have since wiped their respective Instagram profiles clean of each other, after previously going ‘official’ on the app in late April.

Curtis Pritchard and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu

Curtis and Ekin-Su met on the 2025 Love Island: All Stars series and made it very close to the end of the show.

Things sadly ended just three months after the South African season wrapped.

Curtis, whose brother is former Strictly star AJ Pritchard, first appeared on Love Island in 2019, where he met ex-girlfriend Maura Higgins. 

He returned earlier this year for Love Island: All Stars, dating Ekin-Su until their split in July, and has not been linked to anyone since.

Announcing the split on Instagram, she wrote: ‘I wanted to share that Curtis and I have decided to go our separate ways. 

‘It’s been a really tough decision, but one made with a lot of love and respect for one another.

‘He’s an incredible person and I’ll always cherish the memories we made both in an out of the villa.’

At the time many fans branded them a showmance and said they seemed a very unlikely pair.  

It came following her split from her boyfriend Davide before going on to have a rocky stint in Celebrity Big Brother. 

The couple had a turbulent 18-month relationship since they first met in the Love Island villa in 2022, going on to win the show’s £50,000 prize money together.

Zara McDermott and Louis Tomlinson 

Zara and Louis began dating early this year after her split from Sam Thompson. 

Zara and Sam dated for around five years – with the pair going official in May 2019 and later splitting in December 2024.

Zara and Louis will spend Christmas together with his family as their relationship goes from strength to strength. 

Louis’ twin sisters Daisy and Phoebe, 21, recently revealed they are having their ‘biggest Christmas’, after the singer, 33, invited Zara, 28, to the celebrations. 

They said in their podcast: ‘This is a big Christmas this year. It might be our biggest Christmas. Everyone is coming.

‘The new baby this year is Flossy [Lottie’s second child with fiancé Lewis Burton] as she was born in January, so we already have a new member.

‘And we’ve got another new member as our brother’s got a new girlfriend so that will be nice. I think there will be 16 of us in total.’

Last month Zara and Louis made a rare joint appearance at the Grand Prix in Paradise, Nevada. 

It came after it was reported Zara moved into multi-millionaire Louis’s north London mansion, having moved back into her parents’ house after leaving the home she shared with ex Sam.

Of their latest plans, a source told The Sun: ‘Louis and Zara are still totally in the honeymoon period and try not to be apart for too long. Their relationship is serious, it’s not a flash in the pan. It’s going the distance. Zara gets on so well with Louis’ family, especially his sisters, so he wanted her to be there with them, celebrating.

‘They’ve both had work commitments recently so they’re looking forward to spending proper quality time together.’
