Concert goers were left devastated on Friday when it was announced that RnB superstar The Weeknd had postponed the Australian and New Zealand leg of his world tour.
And now a fan theory has emerged that the Canadian-born musician, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, has ditched his gigs Down Under because they clashed with the Billboard Music Awards.
The 33-year-old, who has been nominated for 13 of the prestigious industry awards, is now expected to appear at the ceremony, which takes place on November 19 in Las Vegas.
That is the same day he was meant to start his ‘After Hours Til Dawn ‘ Australian tour in Brisbane.
Many are speculating online that The Weeknd will now take the stage with Ariana Grande to perform to Die For You (Remix) during the BM Awards.

Another Twitter user agreed saying they thought that Ariana Grande would soon, ‘announce that she is going to perform with Abel, The Weeknd at the Billboard Music Awards… + Abel postponed his concert at Australia.’

Meanwhile, some of the online speculation suggested that The Weeknd postponed cancelled his gigs Down Under due to exhaustion.
The star, who is known to be use his online social platforms regularly had not posted anything for three weeks before announcing his decision to cancel his Australian and New Zealand shows.
One industry industry told Yahoo that The Weeknd had sold more than 60,000 tickets for the shows.
The cancelled shows included Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with tour dates across November and December.
Fans suspected something was wrong on Thursday when they discovered they could no longer purchase tickets to his show online.
Touring giant Live Nation Australia was quick to reassure fans they would announce the new tour dates as soon as possible.
The Weeknd last performed in Australia as part of his Starboy World Tour in 2017.

Rolling Stone reports he recently filled London’s stadium with 160,000 fans over two nights, which is a record attendance for the venue.
The four-time Grammy award winning artist previously revealed his stage name originated from him dropping out of school, taking his mattress, ‘leaving one weekend and never coming home.’
