Jon Bon Jovi, aged 62, admits he is ‘too old’ to be ‘chasing pop radio’ despite the success of his hit single Legendary: ‘The champ is tired’

Although Jon Bon Jovi is preparing to release his band’s 16th studio album, he is not trying to keep up with his younger counterparts.

As the Grammy Award winner, 62, spoke to Men’s Health for a new digital feature, he admitted he is ‘too old’ to keep up with some of today’s pop artists.

‘You can’t eventually compete with this year’s model of the top pop act,’ he said ahead of the release of his eponymous group’s album Forever.

‘But as a legacy band like the Rolling Stones and the E Street Band, you’re going to sell out every night, and you’re going to play to a certain crowd with the hopes that you’re going to attract a younger crowd based on people telling people.…’

Bon Jovi added, ‘I’m not chasing pop radio. I can’t! I’m too old.’

The Songwriters Hall of Famer noted that ‘by happenstance,’ their lead single Legendary from Forever ‘is f***ing exploding.’

‘We’re on Hot AC Radio,’ said Bon Jovi. ‘I mean, that’s where they play J-Lo and Ice Spice for goodness’ sake.’

He continued, ‘And it’s exploding. So go figure. But hooray for us. We did it again.’

In the upcoming Hulu docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, he reminisces about how he ‘used to run around these things—stages—like a motherf***er.’

Calling himself a ‘showboating f***er,’ Bon Jovi says he was ‘one of the best there ever was. Now the champ is tired.’

Bon Jovi adds, ‘I had a lot of energy. I was 25 and 30 years old. I wouldn’t want to run around the stage in that manner now.’

After the singer underwent surgery for vocal cord atrophy — which forced the group to cancel their 2022 tour — Bon Jovi has been recovering with the potential to tour again.

He noted to Men’s Health that he ‘perfectly’ sang the group’s 1986 single ‘Livin on a Prayer’ during a recent vocal therapy session.

‘I can hit the high B’s and C’s, no problem,’ added Bon Jovi.

Still, Bon Jovi said he doesn’t plan to return to the road unless he’s ‘100 percent of 100 percent.’

‘We’re so blessed at this point that we can go out,’ he said.

‘I’m amazed, because I’ve heard [everyone from] doctors to people in the industry say to me, “People will pay money just to see you go up there and do it.”‘

Bon Jovi explained, ‘I don’t want their money, and I’m not going to spend their time. It’s just not an option.’

Although stadium shows appear to be out of the question, Bon Jovi previously told DailyMail.com he intends to sing at son Jake Bongiovi’s upcoming wedding to Millie Bobby Brown.

Mick has been a fan of the song since its 2011 release, he previously told the BBC that the track was ‘very flattering’ and ‘hilarious’.

He also told The Sun: ‘I wish I had written it. But wouldn’t that be weird? It’s not really like a Maroon 5 song, so they’re probably as surprised by the success of it as I am. It’s very catchy. It’s funny. Only thing is, it puts pressure on me when I go out dancing!’

Mick’s performance comes after a few weeks of travelling around the globe with his loved ones.

He has had his fans in awe over the past few months as he shared pictures from his travels in Italy, India, Caribbean and Germany.

In 2023 Liam revealed that he needed the joints replacing in his hip due to arthritis as a result of a longstanding thyroid problem. He then underwent a major hip operation.

Before that in 2017 he was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune condition of the thyroid gland. In addition he also suffers with the skin condition  psoriasis.

He has now told The Sun: ‘You’ve got to undo all the bad work you’ve done through f***ing getting off your head and all that.

‘It’s time to undo it all now and get back to reality. All that stuff that you thought was cool in the early days . . . it’s time to get healthy.’

His ‘health trip’ has seen him cutting back on booze and stop drug taking and he now gets up at 4am every day.

Liam told the publication: ‘As you get older, life is precious, do you know what I mean? I’m a pretty happy-go-lucky guy. I love waking up early in the morning.

‘I’m definitely on the downwards slide, though. But we’re all going to die, aren’t we?’

Speaking about his hip issues last year he said: ‘My hips are f***ed, I’ve got arthritis, bad.

‘I went to get it checked out and my bones are mashed up. The lady was going, ‘Oh, you might need a hip operation, a replacement.”

He said at the time he didn’t want the operation because of the ‘stigma’.

‘I think I’d rather just be in pain. Which is ridiculous, obviously. I know that. Just get them fixed. But it’s the stigma, saying you’ve had your hips replaced. What’s next?’

The model launched her own skincare range, MAY Botanicals, in October last year, with a focus on sensitive skin.

Georgia said she had the idea for the brand five years ago, and spent years looking for the right ingredients.

Speaking about the range, she said: ‘I’ve always been obsessed with skincare, from making homemade face masks with my mum and sister as a kid, to trawling health stores for the latest natural solutions to help soothe my skin after shoots or shows.

‘I could never find exactly what I needed, so I developed a range for anyone wanting to celebrate their skin without compromise.

Recently Mick hinted that his share of the Rolling Stones’ back catalogue will be given to charity instead of his children.

The rocker said his eight children ‘don’t need $500million (£400m) to live on’, so he has seemingly come up with another way to donate his fortune.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, he said leaving the money to charity might ‘do some good in the world’.

The Stones were forced to learn how to handle themselves financially after facing serious problems with ownership rights.

They still don’t own the rights to their catalogue before 1971 – which includes many of their biggest singles such as Satisfaction, Paint it Black and Jumpin Jack Flash.

The band hired accountant Allen Klein to stabilise their finances in the 1960s, who had worked with The Beatles and the Kinks and negotiated a lucrative deal for the Stones with Decca.

Yet when the partnership ended he managed to retain ownership of their catalogue for the years in which he managed them – from 1965 to 1970.

The Stones received millions of pounds in royalties – but not as much as if they’d owned the music outright.

Other music stars have sold the rights to their work in recent years, including Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon and Sting.

No decisions have been taken on the Stones’ catalogue.
