The Project viewers have slammed co-host Rove McManus’ presenting style and claimed he doesn’t fit in well with the show’s established format.
Upset fans have taken to the Media Spy forums to claim McManus, who co-hosts the Channel Ten panel show on Fridays, is not a good fit for the show.
‘I would love to see the ratings figures on the nights Rove hosts compared to the nights he doesn’t as I find his presenting style unwatchable,’ one viewer sniped.
‘I personally think his want for control of the show comes back to short man syndrome.’
Meanwhile, another person claimed they heard McManus was difficult to work with behind the scenes, which is why the program felt different when he was co-hosting.
‘From what I understand, Rove is increasingly difficult to work with on that show. He has a huge amount of sway but doesn’t love news and the news producers find it hard to work with him when he’s presenting.

‘He’s very controlling on the content and delivery when at the desk.’
However, another person jumped to the veteran presenter’s defence, and said McManus was a great addition to the show as he added some variety to it.
‘Rove has been the Friday host for a while now, and they take a less-newsy approach on Fridays. He’s quite good on the show in my opinion.’
Another added, ‘Friday show should be the norm in my opinion – I quite like the dynamic that team has’.
Daily Mail Australia has approached Rove McManus for comment.
McManus has been involved with The Project since it began in 2009, as he helped create the series through his production company Roving Enterprises, which continues to develop it.
In October, the veteran presenter made a huge announcement about his future on the hit Channel Ten current affairs show in a rare sit-down interview.
The comedian was asked about his upcoming projects during a candid chat with Jordy Lucas and Alexandria Funnell on their That’s Showbiz, Baby podcast.

Admitting he had many ‘irons in the fire’, the triple Gold Logie winner then teased that his role at The Project could become permanent.
Rove has done numerous stints as a guest presenter on the show over the years and returned once again in 2023, but didn’t expect it to become a more permanent gig.
‘I kind of stumbled back into it. It wasn’t my decision to come back, I was asked and I thought I was just filling in for a couple of months at the end of last year,’ he began.
‘And then it was like: “do you want to keep going into this year?”, and now we’re talking about next year.’
In an exciting announcement, McManus said he is likely to become a ‘permanent Friday fixture’ on The Project and said he hoped to bring a lighter edge to the program.
‘What I’m trying to do is maybe see if we can do something different with the show on a Friday, so it has a different feel,’ he continued.
‘Maybe then looking at what next year could be with that if that’s now a permanent position for me, which seems like it might well be.’
He said the permanency that the gig offers is attractive, given the often transient nature of the entertainment industry.
‘The fact that there is something full time is fun, but at the same time, I’ve got lots of irons in fires because that’s what you have to do in this business,’ he said.
McManus said the stability of jobs in the Australian entertainment industry had dwindled since his days hosting his popular variety show Rove Live in the early 00s.
